Jane The Virgin – Chapter Eighty-Six

As Jane (Gina Rodriguez) is getting ready to turn 30 years old and have a giant birthday bash…she gets into a big fight with Rafael (Justin Baldoni) who told her to leave. She goes back to Alba’s (Ivonne Coll) house, of course, but when she goes to her old room she walks in on Jorge (Alfonso DiLuca) naked!

Xo (Andrea Navedo) is finally becoming healthy enough that she can be around babies since Rogelio (Jaime Camil) does have a baby girl with Darci (Justina Machado). She keeps crying when Ro tries to even coo at her so Darcy suggests after a few nights it will get better.

As Jane is trying to write and get her mind off things, Michael (Brett Dier) decides to stop by since Jane has been ignoring him. At the same time, naturally, Rogelio and Mateo (Elias Janssen) show up to get something from Mateo’s room for show and tell. Michael goes to hide and chooses Mateo’s room as his spot. Rafael goes in, sees Michael and doesn’t say anything to him, but then Mateo runs in there and sees Michael. He screams at Jane that he hates her and that this is all her fault. It turns out that Michael only came over because the life insurance company thinks they pulled insurance fraud, meaning they want the $40,000 back from Jane whose life is falling apart and doesn’t need another problem.

Jane goes to talk with Rafael who isn’t budging. He states again that trying to wait because Jane will hurt him too much and says she needs to get the rest of her stuff out. Meanwhile, Petra (Yael Grobglas) wants J.R. (Rosario Dawson) to spend the night, but she isn’t ready for that yet. Instead, J.R. wants to take it slow. She is also dealing with Milos who is trying to control the Marbella while in prison.

Jane goes to pick up Mateo from school to try and smooth things over, which does not happen. Mateo runs away from her causing some others to question as to if she is his mom or not because he is yelling “stranger danger.” As she puts him in the car, he is screaming that he hates her over and over again. She tries to write it down to help her write everything later since that is what her mentor told her to do, but she is so angry.

Rafael takes Mateo’s side for what he did and totally undermines Jane. J.R. finds emails from Petra to Milos saying she won’t testify for him in court if he hands over the rest of the hotel, but Petra says this wasn’t her. Jane and Michael find proof to show the insurance company they didn’t try to do insurance fraud.

Rogelio was tired of Darci’s new boyfriend and also his biggest enemy, Esteban (Keller Wortham), showing how much better he is with Ro and Darci’s baby daughter than Ro is. He later finds out that Esteban’s show tanked and he hasn’t been able to find work. Being the Rogelio, he is, he pulls some strings and gets Esteban a lead role in a telenovela…but in Mexico. This causes him to break up with Darci, but this isn’t what he wanted.

As Jane’s big party is going to start Jane clearly doesn’t want to go. Apparently neither does Mateo who says that he is sick. Jane goes to get him, but she realizes he really is sick. After Jane leaves Rafael tells Mateo that he can go with Jane if he wants, but Mateo says he hates her because Raf is mad at her. Rafael explains that isn’t how it works and that he still loves Jane.

Esteban admits to Ro he only broke up with Darci because of how much he could see Rogelio hated him by getting him this job. He says that he didn’t want a broken family for Baby.

Jane drives past her own party leaving Xo, Petra and Alba to go get her. She is writing ten minutes down the road and when they show up all her notes get lost in the wind.

Rogelio gets Darci and Esteban back together.

When they find all the notes Petra locates one to prove to J.R. that she didn’t write the email, but Alba and Xo notice that all the other notes that were supposed to be “dispassionate” were very passionate…towards Michael. They question why she is trying so hard to get Rafael back if she still has feelings for Michael.

Janes goes to Rafael’s and tells him that he was right, she is confused and needs to explore things. Her and Mateo make up as Mateo sees Jane cry and understands how much she is dealing with. Michael comes over to give Jane her birthday gift, which is a copy of her book, but with his reactions in it. She reads it and starts to write. Rafael throws away the birthday card he was going to give to Jane, which was a card asking her to marry him. He then takes an unknown pill.
