Jane the Virgin – Chapter Eighty-Two
By: Maddie Ruby
The last season of Jane the Virgin was crazy…but the season finale was crazier. Jane (Gina Rodriguez) was about to move in with her son’s father Rafael (Justin Baldoni) when he starts to get distant. This is because he is hiding the biggest secret…that Michael (Brett Dier), her husband who passed away, is still alive. It is revealed he has amnesia…and no memory of Jane at all. Michael now goes by Jason and has a dog named Bo. It was all orchestrated by Rose (Bridget Regan), of course. She got someone to sign a death certificate for him and faked the death. Michael, now Jason, explains that four years ago he woke up in a field in Montana with no idea who he was. He was told to start over and that he was in trouble. He was unsure if he was a good or bad guy.
Petra (Yael Grobglas) and JR (Rosario Dawson) figure out that Milosh (Max Bird-Ridnell), Petra’s ex-husband, was the one trying to kill and send her to jail. Milosh reveals that he faked a charity for Luisa (Yara Martinez) to donate to so now he owns two-thirds of the Marbella. He says he will give Petra his share if she gives him freedom and Petra actually considers this, which causes JR to say that is why she can’t be with Petra.
Rafael has to leave and Jane is left alone to wait for Michael/Jason. She says he should stay at their place and she will stay at her abuela’s. He says this is okay but just for tonight. Jane awkwardly hugs him as a goodbye. Rogelio (Jaime Camil), Xo (Andrea Navedo) and Alba (Ivonne Coll) meet Michael/Jason. He doesn’t remember anything, even his cat, and says he is not a cat person. Rogelio tries hard for Michael to remember him as well, but he does not remember anything at all. Michael’s mom (Molly Hagan) comes to see him. She is bringing him to a neurologist and wants Jane to come.
Rafael speaks to Luisa, who is receiving millions of baskets from Rose. She doesn’t understand why Rose did this to Michael and realizes she is the only one that will find out, but she must agree to go and see Rose. She doesn’t want to do this, but we know Rose won’t forget about her. That’s exactly what she said in the note with the baskets of vegan donuts.
At the neurologist they find out they don’t know if Michael will get his memory back, but it is best for him to be surrounded by familiar places and things. Patricia, Michael’s mother, thinks Jane should do this since she is his wife after all. Jane is going to show him around, but doesn’t know how to feel with the fact that she may or may not be still married to this man. She is so confused knowing Jason isn’t Michael, but he is just like Michael. Jane goes on a long rant about how she has no idea what to do, she shouldn’t be mad at Michael/Jason and how she is okay, but she clearly isn’t.
Jane takes Michael around to familiar places. The only thing he kind of remembers is Petra…Well, he thinks they had a thing. Jane shuts this down obviously and seems a little jealous.
Petra finds Milosh and decides to cut him a deal. That is what she tells him though, so that way she can buy time. She calls the police and they come and take him away.
Rogelio tries to bond with Raf, but he isn’t into it.
Jane feels like she has been erased from Michael’s life. He says she talks too much and he needs time and moments to think. He isn’t remembering anything and Jane can’t even watch videos of him without getting upset. He comes to the house and apologizes to her, noting he will go back to Montana if that is what she wants.
Xo goes to check up on Rafael, who is in a tough spot with his girlfriend’s dead husband coming back. They were about to get engaged to each other and move into a new home when this all happened. He hugs Xo and starts crying, saying he doesn’t want to lose Jane and he is so afraid of that.
Jane realizes that Rafael has been so supportive and selfless throughout this whole situation and the past four years. She tells him that she has to help Michael remember himself, but this doesn’t change the fact that she loves him. They are going to move in sooner instead of waiting.
