Jeffrey Licon – Going With God
Q) What are some of your most recent projects?
A) Well aside from “Joan of Arcadia” there have been a few various guest spots on TV. shows such as “NYPD Blue” and “Cold Case.” There is also a film entitledMysterious Skin, which as of now will be released on May 27th 2005.
Q) What is a typical day like for you on the set of “Joan of Arcadia?”
A) We usually start the day fairly early. Call time could be anywhere from 5:30 to 9 am. Then it’s about an hour and half or so in make-up and hair involving a flat iron and lot of hair spray (hair definitely being the most intense part of the day). It’s on to rehearsals then committing it to film one scene at a time.
Q) How did you originally hear about the role for the show “Joan of Arcadia” and what was your audition like?
A) As soon as I got the call about the audition I had no idea what to even think. A role like this had never come around before. There are a lot of characters I have been accustomed to playing in my time, but God had just never come around I guess. It was hard deciding what route I wanted to take the role in, and I like to believe that overall the audition went just fine.
Q) How does it feeling playing the role of “God?” Is it empowering?
A) I think in preparation for this role you just have to understand a few things. You are God. You are almighty. There is no one you need to impress. And rather than preaching, your words should just flow out with a certain charisma and charm. That’s what I love about Goth God.
Q) Who would you most like to see play the role of “God” in the future?
A) After giving this question some serious thought, I concluded that I would love to see God played by Snoop Dogg in an upcoming episode of Joan of Arcadia. Ha Ha Ha! That would be classic.
Q) What is your most memorable moment from filming the show?
A) Most of the time we are filming on a sound stage, but for exterior shot we go to an actual high school. There are a certain group of kids who seem to relate to my character’s interests and I enjoy talking to them any time I am there.
Q) You recently guest starred on the show “NYPD Blue.” What was it like playing a role on such an iconic show?
A) It was wonderful to be able to be a part of a show of such great stature. A true privilege, I mean they have almost have more seasons under their belt than I do birthdays.
Q) What has been your favorite role to play and why?
A) I’m actually going to have to go with “The Brothers Garcia.” Anytime you are around the same people for 4 years you could have it go one of two ways, wanting to rip your hair out or making a new family. Luckily for me, the second one happened, from cast to crew to directors and writers on the show. It was a blessing.
Q) You were on the family friendly show “The Brothers Garcia,” but recently you have done more dramatic roles. Which genre of acting do you prefer and why?
A) As I mentioned above I loved doing “The Brothers Garcia,” but there is something about the true art of acting in a dramatic role that succumbs me. It’s absolutely where my heart lies and gives me the opportunity to move myself and hopefully others.
Q) Why did you decide to get into acting?
A) I grew up with four sister, three older and one younger. All the older ones dabbled in acting a bit when they were younger, but none of them ever stuck with it. I was 5 when I saw one of my sisters’ commercials and asked my Mom if I could do that too. We were nowhere near a wealthy family so it was just a fun thing for me to do when I was younger and it also kept the latest Jordans on my feet. Once I hit about 14, the love for the art grew incredibly and I decided that this was going to be me for the rest of my life.
Q) Do you feel it is more beneficial to an actor’s career to begin at a young age?
A) I want to say no, just to give inspiration to those who are my age and want to get started right now. Of course, anything is possible, but the truth is for me all of this wouldn’t even seem possible without starting at the age I did. I have been able to see so much of the world and learn so much about the essence of film making, and most of it happened before I even hit puberty.
Q) What do you do in your spare time?
A) I’m moving out in the next few months, so it seems like real estate magazines have taken over my life. I also love music and try to catch a live show anywhere I can. Small intimate venues are the best for watching your favorite indie band. Oh, and having your closest friends there with you always helps.
Q) One of your hobbies is art. Can we expect “Goth Kid God” to make an appearance in Mrs. Girardi’s art class?
A) Wouldn’t that be a trip. I think Goth kid God and Mrs. Girardi should have a lot more scenes together. It would add to her sweetness and my creepiness.
Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?
A) Everyone has their days, good or bad, ups and downs, whatever it be. Whenever one of those lows occur, it has always been my true fans and supporters who have been backing me since the beginning who get me back on my toes. Thank you sincerely from the bottom of my heart.
