Q) Who are your greatest musical influences?

A) Growing up I listened to a lot of Madonna, Jewel, Britney Spears and Michael Jackson. My mom introduced them to me at an early age and we would jam out in her bedroom. I danced and performed a lot when I was younger, so their performances inspired me a lot. I was also influenced by huge vocalists like Mariah Carey and Beyonce. I loved belting their songs in their car with my parents. I think with my own music I’ve been able to keep the dance aspect while showing my vocal range and incorporating enticing lyrics. Victoria Monet, Michael Pollack and Julia Michaels are a few songwriters that have inspired me lyrically. I love their use of storytelling.

Q) Please tell us the story behind your new song “All In.”

A) “All In” is about a relationship that sparks after the first date. You instantly know you have a special connection with this person. You can spend all your money with this person and know you would both get it all back. It’s that kind of real, lengthy love.

Q) The music video for “All In” is out, how did you develop the concept for it?

A) I have always loved the 90s era and, being a 95’ baby myself, I wanted to create a music video paying homage to that decade. When creating the mood board for the video I started seeing that this song would fit perfectly for the 90s visuals I had in mind. I sent my ideas to the director, Colton Tran, and he shared some more ideas of his own and we talked about it on the phone and we were super happy with what we came up with!

Q) What was your songwriting process for your upcoming EP?

A) I started writing the EP in the middle of quarantine, so it was definitely an unusual process. I wanted to take my time with the process because it was my debut EP. I had lots of Zoom sessions with producers at first and then finally, once LA opened up a bit, I went to some sessions in person but making sure we were all safe. I missed the energy you get from in-person sessions, so it was nice to be making music back in the studio. I wrote a lot of songs at home for this EP, which is definitely not my normal process. I ended up choosing what I thought were the best records that I wrote during this time for the EP and I’m so excited with how it turned out!

Q) Which song was one of your favorites to record for it and why?

A) “Weak” was probably one of my favorite songs to record because it’s the most vulnerable track on the EP. I went to the studio to record two songs that day and everyone wanted to start with the more upbeat one, but I knew I wanted to start with “Weak.” I was already in the mood and in my feelings, so I wanted to jump right in. It was definitely an emotional process recording it, but I really enjoyed it. It was a good release for me. [smiles]

Q) What do you hope fans take away from the EP?

A) A lot of the songs on my EP are about knowing who you are and not apologizing for it or caring what people think about you. I want my listeners to feel confident! I always will want that in my music. When you listen to a song that’s about being a badass bi***, at least for me, I tend to feel that way and I love that feeling. It’s crazy how a song can really change your mood in an instant. This EP definitely helped me understand that I have cared way too much about what people think of me, personally and as an artist, and I wanted to let that go with this EP. I hope people have fun with it and listen to it with their friends, but also cry if you need to.

Q) Will you be doing any virtual or live streaming performances to help promote the EP?

A) I did quite a few live streaming performances during quarantine with other songs of mine, so I would totally love to do more now that my new EP is out. I think that would be really fun!

Q) Given the opportunity who would you love to collaborate with musically in the future?

A) My all-time top artist to collaborate with is Rihanna. I’d also love to collaborate with Chris Brown or Post Malone. I’d love some male energy in there.

Q) What are some artists that you are currently listening to?

A) Currently I am listening to Miley Cyrus’s new album Plastic Hearts on REPEAT!! But a newer artist that I am listening to right now is Brent Faiyaz. His music is super vibey and nostalgic for me.

Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters of your music?

A) I’d just like to say…THANK YOU for supporting me and being here on this crazy journey of mine. I hope this EP makes you happy. I have been writing even more music so know there will be more coming soon! xoxo
