Jerry Minor – Like A Good Neighbor
Q) What are the current projects that you’re working on?
A) I just got done shooting “Lucky Louie” for HBO and I am now working on a pilot for myself.
Q) Please tell us about the premise for your show “Lucky Louie” and your character, Walter.
A) “Lucky Louie” centers around comedian Louie C.K. who works at a muffler repair shop and he has a wife and a child. The show centers around his family and friends. I happen to be his next door neighbor, Walter. Walter also has a wife, Ellen, and a daughter. In the pilot, Walter moves next door to Louie and Louie tries to befriend him because he wants a black friend. They are the first black family to move close to Louie. The nature of our relationship is that we’re starting to get to know each other throughout the season.
Q) What made you want to be a part of the show?
A) I read the script and I thought it was just really good and different. I’ve known Louie for a couple years. We’ve worked together before. I really like him and I was a fan of Louie’s act. In the script were some things he discusses in his stand up. Also, it was a job and I wanted to work.
Q) What is your most memorable moment from filming?
A) There is a fair amount of nudity in the show. That’s always something that sticks out in my mind. As we’re filming, it’s interesting watching someone be nude in front of an audience and the camera. Watching the reaction to it is probably the most memorable thing.
Q) What is it like working with comedian Louie C.K.?
A) It’s a good experience because he brings his own vision, which he came up with (pretty much) on his own.
Q) Why should viewers tune in to the show?
A) I think that if they want to see something that is really frank, then they should watch. The show is really traditional and it is purposely done in this way so that you can explore things in the family, and things that happen to families, that you really can’t do on television. On HBO, we can talk about things and be more honest with things that you can’t do on regular television. If that’s what someone wants to see, then you might want to watch this show.
Q) What has been your favorite project to work on?
A) So far, “Lucky Louie” has been my favorite thing, probably because it’s the last thing I worked on. Usually that’s the way things happen. It really was a great experience and it was something that was different for me. Probably the next thing I do will be my next favorite thing.
Q) What made you want to be an actor?
A) The money. I needed a job, that’s basically it. It wasn’t something that I had thought about doing all my life or when I was younger. I just never thought it was a logical option. I just hated every other job that I had. Once I started doing this, I really liked it and I kept doing it.
Q) What do you do in your spare time?
A) I play video games a lot. That’s it. My favorite video game right now is Table Tennis, believe it or not. It’s ridiculous to be able to play table tennis as a video game. It’s such a simple game that you can play it with just a table and they made a video game of it, but it’s really fun.
Q) What is your latest obsession? A book? A movie? A sport?
A) There are a few things. I am really into music by Bobby Bland. It was someone that I had heard when I was growing up, but I never really paid attention. I’ve been finding a lot of his music and listening to it. That’s my latest obsession.
