Q) Tell us the story behind your new song “Going Next.”

A) I had the idea for the melody right before writing. I wasn’t sure what story I wanted to tell with it, but I knew I wanted to use it. We just sort of let the lyrics and hook present themselves as we wrote. A lot of the songs Drew [Rizzuto] and I write, including this one, have been inspired by Corey Kent. This song was no different. We were trying to think of something he would have had on his Black Bandana I think it turned out exactly like we wanted.

Q) You wrote the song alongside Andrew Rizzuto. Where did the idea for the song spark from?

A) The idea for the song all sparked from finding that certain someone, the person that brings out the best in you and makes you want to be better for them each and every day. When Drew and I sat down to write this song, the story just sort of fell out of both of us. You get lost in that person and just want them to take control of where you’re going next.

Q) This song is so relatable to so many couples. What kind of response have you been receiving to it from your fans?

A) I think people have really been able to connect to the lyrics of the song. Like I said earlier, if you find that special someone, you’ll be able to relate to this song in a heartbeat. I had the idea because I could relate to it and have experienced it, so I was hoping that others out there could do the same.

Q) There is a beautiful acoustic vibe to the song. How did you decide to keep it so low key and let the music behind the words speak for itself?

A) I really wanted to keep this one acoustic (at least for the first time I release it– hint hint) because that’s where it all started for me –  from playing dive bars with eight people in it to Broadway bars full of bachelorettes. It’s all been with an acoustic guitar. I really wanted that feel on this song because it’s so familiar to me.

Q) “Going Next” is a follow up to your song “Midwest Sunset.” Are you back in the studio already working on a follow up to your latest album THE RIDE: Phase 2?

A) Absolutely! 2025 has already been a busy studio year for me. I’ve been starting the next album, working on acoustic songs like “Going Next” and being on the road whenever we can with the band. I hope everyone is ready, because the rest of this year is going to be busy for me. [laughs]

Q) Where can people find some of your upcoming live performances?

A) My website jetjurgensmeyer.com is typically the best place to find where I’ll be performing. I also am constantly updating everyone on my socials. I gotta keep everyone in the ever-changing loop.

Q) What are some upcoming on-screen projects you have approaching soon?

A) Right now I’m staying pretty busy with music. I’m also a full time student at Belmont University. Acting has sort of taken a back seat for the moment so that I can focus on what God’s throwing at me right now. I continue to audition some but haven’t found the right role for my age or personality yet.  If the right role comes along, I’ll be all in.

Q) Who are some artists that you would really love to collaborate with on music in the future?

A) I’m inspired by so many people that I could make a huge list of everyone that I love listening to and hope I get to work with. The list would include Cody Johnson, HARDY, Kelsea Ballerini, Sabrina Carpenter and Chris Stapleton. I hope that one day I can slowly start to check some of those names off my list.
