Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Well, that sounds like a simple question, but you just opened a Pandora’s box. So, now I have to give you some background. When I first started out in music, I never really had confidence in my singing voice so I started off as a hip-hop artist, touring California and Las Vegas I had a primarily Middle Eastern fan base. After 9/11 I was upset about going into Iraq so my music was more political. But I started getting unwanted attention because of the terroristic aspect of the music. So, I ended  up going back to my roots and playing a more indie sound.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Growing up, I was really, really, really into The Smiths, Morrissey, David Bowie and The Pixies.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Throwing Stones.”

A) It’s not exactly a new song but the story behind it was every time I would tell my significant other something vulnerable, she would throw it back in my face in disagreement. Example: “What do you mean am I doing drugs? You’re the drug addict you said it yourself.” I was a screw up in marriage and when it fell apart It was my fault. I didn’t tell her anything out of fear she would just use it against me. She had these beautiful green eyes, and I would always tell her why try when you have the most beautiful eyes.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) The vulnerability and willingness to say things out loud that most people won’t say or admit.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) Well, the model is told by everyone how perfect she is, but in actuality she’s hurt and not perfect at all. She makes an effort to look tough so people wouldn’t think there is a weakness to exploit. So, when she’s alone at home and free from the mask she copes alone talking to a rose. 🌹

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I do write and play all the instruments myself in my home studio. I start off laying down on my bed playing my acoustic guitar with a melody I like. Record it finish the song structure the instruments then add vocals after.

Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I do everything

Q) You’ve got your album Militant Minded is out now. What are some themes you explore on it?

A) My first rap album in ten years and it’s gonna be good. The song gifted state is actually like doing very, very, very well so I’m really excited about this album. It’s a little bit militant again, but I guess it’s the right time considering what’s going on in the world.

Q) Do you have a track on it that challenged you the most creatively?

A) Rap is always pretty easy for me. I just didn’t like the negative attention that it brought there’s so many rappers out there. You gotta be different and I haven’t seen a militant rapper yet, so I guess that’s pretty good.

Q) What do hope lingers with people that explore this album as a whole?

A) Just another point of view. One man’s terrorist is another man’s hero.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I love Michigan because there’s a big Arab community. They love my music in LA, of course, because that’s my home base and I have my fans here.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I don’t do much collaboration, but in hip-hop I do I’m actually producing Slim Capone’s new album.

Q) What artist/musician are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I listen to Jimmy Nebula. He’s really good and the truth is I don’t listen to new music. [laughs]

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I appreciate your support, you are awesome. Make sure to follow me @ Jimmy Nebula Productions on Instagram and Facebook. Make sure to listen to my new album on your favorite platform and thank you for giving me a chance to talk about my music.
