John Patrick Amedori – Rocking and Rolling
Q) What are some of your most recent projects?
A) Recently, the last thing I did was a Coke commercial. Before that, it was really slow with auditions and stuff.
Q) Tell us about the premise of the movie Little Athens and about your character.
A) Little Athens takes place in one day. It is a very dry-humor comedy drama. It follows three or four different story lines throughout one day. My character, Jimmy, is a very introverted kid who doesn’t have a lot of friends, but is pretty much the local young drug dealer. He just goes to places and drug deals and a lot of bad stuff happens along the way.
Q) What was it about the film that made you want to take part in it?
A) I just thought there were a lot of elements in the script. The director wrote and directed it with his brother. Meeting with the director, he has a certain way of directing, and everyone has a certain back-story. I think working on Little Athens has made me a better actor because during the rehearsals for the film, we’d rehearse the scenes and we’d talk about our relationships between characters. We’d go back from the time they were in kindergarten all the way up until the time when the movie takes place. There is stuff in photographs that can tell a whole story. Because the story takes place during one day, you can’t see the time where his dog got hit by a car or the little moments. Talking about those little moments before it really made everyone’s character stand out a lot more and it helped out everyone’s performance one hundred percent.
Q) What was your most memorable moment from filming?
A) The whole process was really cool. My main thing was that I had to learn how to drive stick two days prior to the movie. On the first day, it was driving and they asked if I knew how to drive stick and I said no. They asked if I could learn and I said sure. My dad and I went out and had to learn how to drive stick. We had to drive this car and it was the biggest piece of crap! It was the worst car in the world and I was ruining it trying to drive stick. I was really impressed with myself because I couldn’t believe I could do it, but I did!
Q) You’ve worked with such screen legends like Annette Bening, Ben Kingsley and Bruce Willis. Who would you most like to work with in the future?
A) I definitely want to work with Johnny Depp because ever since I was little,Edward Scissorhands has been my favorite movie. So, I’d definitely like to work with him one day or just meet him. If he decided to direct, I’d love to work with him one day.
Q) What was it like working on the set of The Butterfly Effect?
A) It was awesome! I don’t think I’ve had a better time working, especially with the fact I got to do every type of acting I always wanted to do. I got to do my own stunts, I had to cry and just being on set was good enough. I spent a month and a half up in Vancouver filming it and I had a blast!
Q) You worked with M. Night Shyamalan on the movie Unbreakable. What was it like working with such a talented director?
A) It was amazing! He’s so talented! This is when I was thirteen so it is kind of a real long time ago, but I just remember when I met him he was really nice. There are some people that you meet that make you feel intimidated and I’ve been really fortunate that the people I’ve worked with never made me feel like that. To meet him and to work with him was really cool. In the scene where the girl that plays my sister and I save this guy from drowning in a pool at the end of the movie, we did so many angles for that one shot. One of the angles, I was crying so much that in the middle of the shot he came over and gave me a hug. I thought that was really cool because I’ve never met anyone else who would do that.
Q) In the upcoming drama for the WB entitled “Rocky Point,” you will be playing the role of Lauren Holly’s son. How did you hear about this role and what was your audition like?
A) My agent got me the audition for that part and got me the script. It was really cool. I had met the casting directors before because they cast the show “Reba” on the WB and I was really excited when I got it. I had to go back a few times. First I went for the casting director, then I had to go back for producers and then I had to go back for producers and directors. I then had to go back for the producers, I had to test for it (I had to go in and read with Chyler Leigh who is playing the main part) and then I had to go back with her and read for the network which was all the big suits and everybody. I had to do it a whole bunch of times. That was a whole bunch of work, but I’m excited I got it.
Q) What has been your favorite project to work on?
A) I don’t know. I think I’ve been very fortunate to work on everything. I think everything I’ve done has been great. I think one of the ones I liked the most was “The Guardian,” just because I had to talk with a speech impediment. Just think having to play a different character, instead of playing an angry kid or a regular kid that just has some problems, I think having a speech impediment and being a completely different character was really cool.
Q) You recently were on an episode of the show “Joan of Arcadia,” what show would you love to work on?
A) I think a part from all the drama that I’ve done, I seriously feel that one of the best shows on television right now is “Arrested Development.” I would really like to work on that. I don’t know if I’d ever do it justice, but just to meet those people and see how they work. I am a really big David Cross fan and I think he’s hilarious. I just think the show is clever comedy.
Q) You have played in bands and love playing music. Do you have any plans for an album to come out?
A) I have a friend of mine and him and me have been playing music on and off for a real long time. Just recently, we’ve been getting together. We’re looking for a drummer so we can start making songs and recording. I think we’ll just get a super underground following. I’m not the kind of person to use acting to have a headlining tour. I’d rather make music that counts and have a real underground following. I think that’s what I plan on doing with music.
Q) Who are some of your favorite bands?
A) Nirvana is my favorite band of all time. I’m really big into 90’s rock. When I first started playing guitar I listened to a lot of classic rock music. I used to listen to a lot of Jimmy Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. I was in a metal band for a while. I listen to a lot of The Pixies, Nirvana, old Queens of the Stone Age and any Mike Patton project (he was the lead singer of Faith No More) and I’m a really big Mr. Bungle fan.
Q) What do you do in your spare time?
A) Lately I’ve been skateboarding again. I’ve been skateboarding on and off, but lately I’ve been hanging out with my little brother a lot. My friends and me are working on this project and writing a lot. I try and snowboard and skate, which are pretty much my hobbies.
Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?
A) I would just like to say thank you for liking what I do and I really appreciate everything. I am glad that I am doing things that people find entertaining and hopefully I can more for everybody to like!
