Jurassic Park: Rebirth brings together some of the most talented actors for another iconic action-adventure film with dinosaurs at the heart. It takes about half an hour into the movie before the heartracing pace picks up, but writer David Koepp delivers and director Gareth Edwards brings the powerhouse with the Prehistoric beasts.
We pick up five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion where the dinosaurs no longer pose a threat. However, Big Pharma bad guy Martin Krebs (Rupert Friend) stirs the pot by hiring Zora (Scarlett Johansson) to lead a team to an island in order to snag dino DNA that could have the potential to assist with discovering life-changing medicine. To assist in the task at hand Zora seeks out Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey) who is a paleontologist looking to revitalize the museum he works for by drawing in a new dino fascinated crowd. Add in Mahershala Ali as Zora’s go-to guy for dangerous situations. Things get a little out of hand though when Zora and company cross paths in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean with a father, his daughter and her boyfriend – an out of sorts sequence that feels unnecessary. That’s where we start to lose focus as it doesn’t add to the purpose of the movie – getting that DNA!
Certainly, Jurassic World Rebirth offers beautiful imagery with water shimmering and dark tunnels that startle thanks to cinematographer John Mathieson. Add in the iconic music by Alexandre Desplat (with a hint of clarinet thanks to Bailey) and you’ve got yourself another Jurassic juggernaut. Director Edwards brings the promised action and dinosaur drama that these movies are known for with the heartracing and awe inspiring moments you look for from a Jurassic film.
If you’re looking for the snark and heart of the original Jurassic franchise, you’ll have to wait for another one to be made. However, for a light, fun, intense and nostalgic watch, take a seat in the theater and catch Jurassic Park: Rebirth.
