Kari Alison Hodge – Good Kisser
By: Krista Ann Freego
Q) What is the premise for the movie Good Kisser?
A) Good Kisser is a movie you go into thinking it will be a sexy ride, but turns out to be much more than that – an interesting character study of three women and they dynamics between them. It will make you laugh, turn you on, and maybe break your heart.
Q) You play Jenna in the movie. How would you describe her?
A) Jenna is an intelligent yet air-headed aspiring novelist who is a thoughtful and loyal girlfriend. She also struggles with self-confidence and has an anxiety disorder.
Q) What was the most challenging aspect of playing this character?
A) Playing Jenna was amazingly easy. I really felt connected to the character from the first time reading the script. So, the most challenging thing was the scene when we were dancing because there was no music to dance to (usually music is added in post-production).
Q) How would you explain Jenna and Kate’s relationship?
A) Jenna and Kate (Rachel Paulson) started off very strong and moved in with each other quickly. There was always a power dynamic where the extroverted and confident Kate had the upper hand, but it worked out well for them for the first half of the relationship. Jenna thought she had finally found the one. Kate was the first woman that she had moved in with. When their relationship started struggling, Jenna really tried hard to look inward and see what she could do to improve the relationship. She senses that Kate’s mind has seemed to be elsewhere for the past couple of months, but doesn’t want to give up.
Q) What was your favorite scene or part of Good Kisser?
A) My favorite part is when I throw the popsicle. [wink]
Q) What is a story from set that you can share with our readers?
A) It was my birthday during filming and when the clock turned to midnight the cast and crew started singing “Happy Birthday “and brought out a cake with candles. It was super sweet!
Q) How was your experience at ClexaCon with the film?
A) ClexaCon was so fun! I really loved the filmmaker panel the first day. I learned so much from the various female and queer filmmakers and came out of it very inspired. Of course, I also had a blast at the Ascension party!
Q) What would you like the audience to take away from watching Good Kisser?
A) Being honest with your partners and yourself, as difficult as that can be, is the best policy.
