Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Little bit of rock and a whole lotta country!!

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Miranda Lambert, Brantley Gilbert, Avril Lavigne, Joan Jett, Alison Krauss and Rhonda Vincent have all influenced my writing and my sound.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Jesus and Joan Jett.”

A) I have always asked myself two questions when life gets hard. Number one, and most importantly: What would Jesus do? Number two: What would Joan Jett do? Add those up and I get my answer. I wrote this song with Evan Coffman and Greylan James back in 2017. I’m so happy it’s finally out to the world!

Q) How is this song an edgier vibe for your music?

A) I leaned in more to the rock side of my music to pay tribute to Joan Jett.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) There’s a lot of people that say “finally a song that gets me.” I feel like everyone’s reasons are different but if I had to guess I think for some it makes them feel like it’s okay to cut loose and love Jesus at the same time!

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) Since it’s such a rocking song, I felt it was perfect to have my band come in and just do what we do on stage! No story line, just rock. I did love the garage band practice scene in Freaky Friday, so we took inspiration from that with the garage my team built as the set.

Q) “Jesus and Joan Jett” was written with Evan Coffman and Greylan James. What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I remember going in and telling them that I needed a song that was me to a T. I don’t really have a process. I feel like it changes with every write. Some days someone will have a track that we can write to and an idea already started and other days it’s just guitars and a clean slate.

Q) Derek Wells lent a hand with production on the song, but how much of a say do you have in the production of your music?

A) I helped with the direction and the bones of the song and Derek, and all the amazing musicians brought it to life!

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) One of my favorite places to play, which closed down a few years ago, was City Limits Saloon in Raleigh, NC. It was such a special place for me. When I turned eighteen years old, I went to a lot of shows there and was so inspired. A lot of up and comers played there so when I played there my first time it was the best feeling!

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Hmmm, that’s a tough question! I could name a bunch of artists that would be so cool to collab with but if I could pick one right now it would be Alison Krauss. I’ve always wanted to do a gospel song with her.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I love HARDY’s music! It’s Country, it’s Rock and it’s redneck – three of my favorite things. [laughs]

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) I love how much easier it is to connect with fans through social media, but my favorite way to connect with fans is at a live show. Nothing beats getting to shake someone’s hand and look them in the eyes and give them a big ole hug!!

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I would like to say THANK YOU!! It’s because of you that I get to keep chasing this dream!
