Interviews
Keith Robinson – Saints & Sinners
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) What are the recent projects that you have been working on?
A) I have a brand new single out now called “Love Somebody” along with my album, which will be out this summer called Love Episodic. I just completed Tupac [Shakur] biopic, which will be out in September and I’m excited for that.
Q) How was your character, Miles Calloway, originally described to you?
A) He was described to me as an R&B star who has kind of fallen off the charts and found his way to being the Choir Director at the church. He had his own personal demons with his relationships and that a lot of his story would be told through his music and the music he makes for others around him.
Q) Was there anything you added to your role that wasn’t originally scripted for you?
A) Maybe a little more swag! I think that’s pretty much the only thing I added. He was pretty transparent so it was kind of self-explanatory. I think you always try to bring your own flavor to the role and for me, being a musician, I have a really good POV of feelings and emotions of some other guy in that business trying to balance both worlds. It was a lot of fun.
Q) As an actor and musician yourself, how do you balance both worlds?
A) I have always done it so it isn’t a real challenge to me. I like to express myself in different ways. I think they go hand in hand, especially now with how the business is. You have to diversify and get your point across in more than one way. It’s never really been a problem up into this point. So, I hope I’ll never have to choose.
Q) Was there instant cast chemistry when everyone began working together on “Saints & Sinners?”
A) A lot of us had already worked together on different projects. So, we were actually already friends off-camera. They are all professional so the chemistry was pretty much already there by the time we all got together.
Q) What are some moments you are most looking forward to fans seeing?
A) I’m looking forward to the fans hearing the music and how it is weaved into storyline. I’m looking forward to the intensity of the relationship between me and my love interest on the show. I don’t know how they will weave that picture. Everyone’s character has some obstacles to it so I’m looking forward to people getting into each character.
Q) What do you think it is about the show that has drawn in so many viewers?
A) It’s well acted and well written. It’s a one hour drama that you don’t necessarily see. To have such a unique premise is really something that people are hungry for. People are hungry for something like this. A lot of things come together to make it great. I’m excited about that.
Q) What do you hope viewers take away from watching “Saints & Sinners?”
A) I hope they are fairly entertained because it is entertaining. I hope they see themselves in these characters in that we all have our own flaws. We go through the same problems at different levels and in different ways. So, there is a lot of commonality and humanity itself. I think people can really dig into each and every one of these characters.
Q) You are a part of social media. Do you enjoy the instant fan feedback you have been receiving?
A) Of course! Feedback is very necessary for us to see where everyone is at and if we are pointing in the right direction. It’s been all positive so far and that’s been a great thing.
Q) You’re an actor and musician. What else would you like to try your hand at?
A) Maybe sports casting and professional chef! I know my way around the kitchen. I’m a work in progress, but I’m catching on really quick.
Q) Is there anything else you want to be sure to tell with fans about the series?
A) Tune in each Sunday. We’ll get deeper and deeper into the storylines. Tune into an exciting ride. We’re going to get deeper and deeper into this.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) You should be a fan and supporter of my work! True artistry is worth supporting and I think that is what I represent on screen and in music. Hopefully, if people don’t know that about me they will discover that and jump on board and enjoy the ride.
