Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Blue-Eyed Rock&Roll.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) My main lifelong influences are The Rolling Stones, Queen, The Beatles and James Brown.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “God Knows I Tried.”

A) I’ve always loved testing the limits and doing what other people won’t do. Chaos…I need. It turns me on. But that has gotten me in a lot of trouble and hurt people. G.K.I.T is a love letter to myself, but an apology to everyone else.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I think the fans appreciate a good story. And I will always deliver that. But what’s more is the honesty. I think we need more musicians and artists to really embrace who they are so the fans/kids can have someone to look to when they’re feeling like an outsider. I’m here for them, as one of them.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) I wanted a coming-of-age message. I was this way as a kid and I’m still this way now. Going from being a little tomboy hanging out with the boys to growing up and doing the same thing.

Q) What is your song writing process?

A) It differs. Sometimes I’ll just sit down with the guitar and pour my heart out. And sometimes I’ll write with three other people and start with a concept. It’s never the same, really.

Q) Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) No. I wrote poetry as a kid, so words have always been my thing. I never thought I would be a singer. Adding the music came later.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I have never been asked this before! I dig it! I’m not a producer, but I do like to have an opinion on everything that goes into my music. Sometimes I know what I want it to sound like and I’ll express that, and other times I’ll just see what a producer does and give my thoughts afterwards. I love when they do something I would never have thought of. The beauty of collaboration. But I do compose and arrange a lot of my music.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Kelsy Karter performance?

A) Rock&Roll and love and sweat, blood and tears. Even when there’s silence the glitter falling from my bands beautiful long hair will keep you entertained. We are here to make you fall in and out of love all at once.

Q) Will there be a full EP or album coming in the near future?

A) YES and YES

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I love intimate situations – drunk at a friend’s party smoking a cigarette on the rooftop and someone asks me to sing them a tune. I love random moments like that. But I already know Madison Square Garden is going to be my “OK I CAN DIE NOW” moment.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Harry Styles. HARRY STYLES.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I fucking LOVE Alex Cameron right now. His album is so fire. Also, The Struts, Borns, The Strokes

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Before I had fans I wanted to be rich and famous. Now, I want to affect change. My relationships with my fans are PRICELESS. They mean absolutely everything to me and they are the reason I get to do this for a living. It’s just as important to connect with fans as it is to make great music in my opinion.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I’ve got a ticket to Mars, are you coming?
