Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Instinctual.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) RunDMC, Neil Young, Metallica, Missy Elliott, Joni Mitchell.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “I’m Ready.”

A) It’s a song about making a decision. Indecisive behavior is laborious.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I’m not sure, but I hope it’s a feeling of, “YES. I can do this. I’m ready.”

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) Coming out is hard. Many stages of life are hard. The Brat Pack are so gorgeous, and I think they show a lot of joy in who they are. It was really special to feature them.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) It’s different for every song…

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I’ve produced all my own material until this album. Feed the Fire is the most collaborative project I’ve done.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Kinnie Starr performance?

A) Poetry, conversation, melody and vulnerability. ♥️

Q) What songs off your Feed the Fire album have you been enjoying performing live?

A) I love singing “WE ARE SKY.” It connects me to my belief system.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to the album as a whole?

A) I hope people feel powerful!

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I love working in Germany. I have German roots and I really feel it when I’m there.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Missy Elliott!

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I love Cool Kids. They are super bare bones and funny!

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) I left Facebook over eight months ago but try to use Instagram and Twitter. I have help, too. I have mixed feelings towards the need for us to reveal all. It encourages narcissism.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Oh my … man, I’m just so grateful that I am still working. I love writing, and singing, and composing. THANK YOU!
