Interviews
Kylie Trout – Can’t Be Lonely
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) I would describe my sound as Miranda Lambert meets pop-country.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) Some of my musical influences are Carrie Underwood, George Strait and early Taylor Swift.
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Can’t Be Lonely.”
A) The story behind “Can’t Be Lonely” was inspired by past relationships as well as looking at other guys that friends of mine have dated who were just not the greatest. I wanted to write a song for girls to listen to which would remind them of their worth and to not waste their time on guys who don’t put in the effort.
Q) The song blew up on TikTok! What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) I think the majority of girls out there have been hurt by a guy that they liked, so to hear a song like this would allow them to relate and rebuild their self-worth.
Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) My songwriting process is always different! Sometimes I’ll hear a melody in my head and put that into words or sometimes I’ll play something cool on guitar and create lyrics based off of that.
Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) When in production, I am always present in the studio working with musicians as well as my producer!
Q) You were a high school senior when you wrote “Can’t Be Lonely.” How do you balance being a musician and a high school student?
A) Balancing school and music is definitely challenging! However, I really try to balance my time wisely, so that I don’t fall behind in either. I’ll do school in the morning and work on music in the afternoon.
Q) You’ve opened for the likes of Jerrod Neimann, Marshall Tucker Band and Leigh Nash. Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) When opening for Leigh Nash, we played on a rooftop bar overlooking Disneyland, which was so beautiful and an experience I’ll never forget. When opening for Jerrod Neimann, we played at The Canyon, which was also such a great experience. We had a great crowd filled with the nicest people, which is really what makes shows memorable.
Q) With concerts currently on hold, what do you miss most about being on stage?
A) I miss the fan interaction the most. The most important thing to me at shows is making the night memorable for the people there. We just want everyone to have the time of their lives!
Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?
A) Most definitely! It has been a goal of mine to release an EP for a while now.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) I would love to collaborate with Parker McCollum. He is a great artist with a great voice.
Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?
A) I have been listening to a lot of Carly Pearce lately. I love her stuff because it is so relatable, and she has a fantastic storytelling voice.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) Social media is such an important way to connect with my fans because even though I can’t meet every single one of them in person, we still have a way to connect. Without them, I wouldn’t be able to do what I do, so I always try to respond to every comment and message.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) I would just like to say a huge thank you because they are the only reason why I am able to follow my dreams. Love every single one of y’all!
