Interviews
Landon Clements – Southern Charm
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How close of friends were you with everyone in the cast before you began filming Southern Charm?
A) Shep and I were and are still the closest, but I’ve been friends with Whitney for about ten years as well. I met Thomas when I was in college playing polo, but we never hung out as he was so much older. It’s funny now considering…I also knew JD way back in the day because he actually used to date one of my girlfriends. The rest of the crew I met filming. Cameran and I have gotten much closer this last year. She’s an old pro when it comes to all the show stuff, especially with Twitter and the social media side of things. It’s crazy some of the comments we get, but you just have to laugh it off.
Q) What made you decide to join the show?
A) I just thought it would be a fun experience and I get to hang out with my friends.
Q) Were there any parts of your life that you deemed off limits to the show?
A) Nope
Q) How are you acclimating to life in Charleston?
A) Charleston is home so it was really easy to acclimate. Plus, my sisters and nieces are here so that’s makes it even more fun.
Q) We know you have been wanting to create a lifestyle/arts/travel publication. Where do things stand with your endeavors?
A) Check out the website roam-guide.com. We go live in the Fall and are currently creating content. I have been traveling a ton and partnered with a good friend of mine out of NYC. We are so excited about everything and can’t wait for everyone to be able to roam with us.
Q) The fandom seems very interested in your relationship with Shep. How does it make you feel to have so many people invested in you and your future?
A) It is really awesome having so much support. Shep and I have a blast together. He has been one of my biggest supporters with Roam and is excited about the content, contributing and even jumping in on some of our Roam adventures. Perhaps you’ll get to see more during Season 4?! Fingers crossed….
Q) The trailer for the season teases an upcoming episode where Thomas “roasts” his guests. Were you blindsided by his comments?
A) Beyond blindsided. It was so crazy! I am curious to see the footage. I, honestly, don’t remember much of that night because I was in such shock.
Q) We’re seeing in the trailer for an upcoming episode where things get heated between you and Kathryn. Where does your relationship with her stand today?
A) I haven’t seen or spoken to her since that night. It would be a blessing if I never saw her again, but oh the reunion…I am not looking forward to having to film with her again to be honest. I find her behavior to be unpredictable and volatile. Andy help!
Q) You are very active on social media. Do you enjoy interacting with your fans and the instant fan feedback you receive during episodes?
A) I do enjoy it, but I also hate it. There are some pretty crazy people out there that write really awful things, but I just block and delete them. The funniest one lately was “Landon is as useless and an ashtray on a motorcycle. #Bam.” My sisters and I died laughing!! Sometimes the cast and I will screenshot the really awful ones and pass them around on a group chat. Those are hilarious! You have to laugh at yourself or this business can really eat you up. But I do love meeting new people and the show has opened so many doors for me. I remember last season showing Shep a post I did and five different languages were spoken in the comments. That made me so happy that our crazy little crew of friends we intriguing people around the world. Social media has really influenced me and my ideas for Roam.
Q) People might recognize you also from your previous time on “The Hills.” Do you keep in touch with any of your former costars?
A) I see them all when I’m in LA. We always end up at the same events. Heidi [Montag] has been really sweet about “Southern Charm” and sometimes we even live tweet when the show is on. I wish them all well. It’s fun to see where everyone has ended up. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like being called the “East Coast L.C. “ Lauren [Conrad] is so great and she really made a life for herself from the show. I hope I can do the same.
Q) What do you think it is about Southern Charm that has made it such a fan favorite show?
A) I think we are all very relatable. The fact that we were all mostly friends before is something special that you don’t normally see on reality television. We really are like a big dysfunctional family. At the end of the day, we all love each other and would do anything for one another.
Southern Charm airs Monday at 9pm ET/PT on Bravo
