Laur Allen – Season of Love
By: Lisa Steinberg
Q) When you began reading the script, what about your character Mardou and storyline really stuck out to you and you connected with?
A) After reading the script, I was drawn to Mardou’s independence and confidence. I love that she is such a steadfast friend, sister and partner who is always there for the people she cares about. One of my favorite things about her is that she is incredibly compassionate, but isn’t afraid to dish out a little tough love. I can relate to that!
Q) How does Mardou’s previous romantic relationships and platonic interpersonal relationships affect her perspective and outlook on love?
A) Mardou isn’t sitting around waiting for love to happen to her. She’s independent, has a great job and knows who she is. In the movie we meet someone who Mardou has had casual relations with and I think we learn a lot about her from this interaction. Mardou is respectful, but she hasn’t opened up her heart…yet. She wasn’t looking for love when she came back home for the holidays, but she has so much to offer to the right person and is ready to find her partner.
Q) The hallmark of rom-coms is this balance of laughter and love, and how that feels so pure. Even during all of the drama, we know that whatever the couple endures, they will come out on the other side. What is it about these types of films that warms hearts while tugging at them too and makes you root for these individuals regardless of these rollercoaster moments in their relationships?
A) For me, it’s about the journey. Those rollercoaster moments are so relatable that it’s impossible not to get personally invested in some way. Even though we know how the story ends, experiencing all of those human ups and downs alongside the characters, and watching love win in the most uplifting cinematic payoff, is what keeps me going back for more.
Q) The film is directed by Christin Baker, what kind of feedback and support did she provide for you throughout filming?
A) Christin is an extremely intuitive director. She trusts her actors, but she also knows exactly what to say to help us achieve our best performance. She created one of the most collaborative, respectful and efficient sets I have ever worked on and I’m humbled and appreciative that she brought me into the family. Fun fact: Christin not only gave me her support during the movie, but also her clothes. Mardou’s leather jacket and her cool sneakers are actually Christin’s!
Q) What do you hope that viewers take away from watching Season of Love?
A) That love is love, and it’s never too late to go after what you want!
