Legacies – I’ll Tell You a Story

It’s another rough week at the Salvatore school. We open at TRIAD with MG’s mother Veronica (Erica Ash) and Agent Clarke (Nick Fink). She tells him to interrogate a tied up and terrified Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) and then toss him in the Pitt.

Landon swears up and down he knows nothing and says due to the phoenix of it all it’ll be pointless to try and kill him. But Clarke doesn’t want him dead. He insists he wants to tell him a story. But, there’s a catch. He wants Landon’s help to unlock Malivore (Douglas Tait). Clarke thinks Landon hearing about his father will give him some incentive.

Back at the school things aren’t looking great for Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) and Hope (Danielle Rose Russell). Hope’s convinced Landon’s still angry at her. Josie’s (Kaylee Bryant) taken up residence in Penelope’s room and desperately seeking answers on the ominous merge Penelope mentioned.  Then, there’s Rafael (Peyton Alex Smith) who’s losing chunks of time courtesy of Hope’s family elixir.

In Alaric’s (Matt Davis) office there’s a message from Landon saying he’s heading into the woods for a few days. Hope thinks it’s weird because Landon says to tell Raf and Jed (Ben Levine) hi. Reminder, Jed once put Landon into the infirmary.  Ric says that they lied to Landon, so if he needs space they should give it. Hope leaves and Emma (Karen David) shares some concerns about Rafael with Ric. Aside from the losing time he’s been aggressive. They could use a hand, but Ric’s too proud to ask Dorian (Demetrius Bridges) to come back.

Lizzie’s failing to make an apology pie for Josie before recruiting Hope. They’re gonna attempt to get their favorite people people back together. Hope suggests Lizzie just apologize, but she’s not really able to hear it. She’s talking quickly and wound up. For those of us familiar with Bipolar disorder, it seems she could be manic. Hope tells her Landon’s MIA, so Lizzie offers her a trade. If Hope makes a banana cream pie she’ll give her a magic crystal to help her practice her apology for Landon.

Meanwhile, Josie’s getting frustrated that all info about the merge has been scrubbed from all the library books. Offering baked goods usually does the trick with Josie, but when she rejects Lizzie’s snacks made up of all her favorite things she thinks figuring out what the merge is might win her over.

Back to Landon and Agent Clarke. The story is that a thousand years ago mythical creatures were plentiful and some of them terrorized humans, dragons in particular. So a witch, a werewolf and a vampire formed an alliance to protect themselves. They created a golem that could consume the dragons. The creature was spelled to have an insatiable hunger and unable to harm any of the big three.

The good news is the golem ate the dragons. The bad news is the golem wanted more and more. Landon wonders if the golem ate his father. The plot twist is that  the golem was his father.

Hope gives Lizzie a book stashed in Ric’s office that could answer some questions about the merge, but she advises Lizzie to beware of Pandora’s box and all that. Lizzie’s sure everything will be fine. The mania is in full swing.

Out on the docks Hope talks to her subconsciousness’s idea of Landon. She says she’s sorry “if” she hurt him by keeping the secret. Hologram Landon tells off Hope for the half-baked apology.

Speaking of Landon, the boy in question doesn’t get how a “mud robot” could be his father. The golem started to freak out its creators so said creators were going to put him down by wiping away the mark on its forehead. However, the golem made a deal with the humans it protected and they set him free. Agent Clarke says it’s because the golem evolved and got lonely that he tried to make a son Adam and Eve style. And here’s where it gets weirder. The first dozen attempts were duds until he made Agent Clarke. Clarke and Landon are brothers!

Lizzie gives Josie the book on the Gemini coven as a peace offering, but Josie’s still angry. She says they shouldn’t just have separate rooms, they need separate lives. This sets Lizzie off. She goes to her room and begins to have a magical meltdown. She’s scared the merge is a spell Josie will use to leave her forever. Hope tries to comfort her and promises to call her Aunt Freya to ask what the merge is.

Afterwards we see Hope goes to Josie who makes a snide remark about Hope and Lizzie being besties. Hope tells Josie that Lizzie’s spiraling. Josie says she “did this to herself.” Hope worries Lizzie can’t control her brain chemistry, but Josie asserts she’s crashing because she stopped taking her meds. Josie says letting Lizzie crash is the only way things’ll change.

Lizzie’s not the only one heading for a crash. In the hallway Raf picks a fight with a vampire, which leads to a near wolf vs. vampire fight.  Ric tries to intervene and for his trouble gets tossed across the room. Luckily, Roman (Jedidiah Goodacre) steps in. Rumble averted, for now.

Hope tries talking to Hologram Landon again. She says that she lied to protect him, but he thinks she was just afraid of leaving.

More of the story. So turns out even clay fathers can get cold and distant. When Clarke wasn’t what the golem hoped for he threw him away and in return Clarke betrayed him. He went to the golem’s original worshipers, founded TRIAD, and hired witches to dissolve him. The golem is the black pit. The keys are a part of the spell used to lock him away and only his blood (Landon) can detect the last key.

At school Emma tells Ric today could’ve gone badly. He is after all only human. Before things escalate Emma decides the best way to help is to take a sabbatical. She says the mission of the school has grown, so he needs to admit to needing help.

Josie goes to pack up a few things and Lizzie’s mad. The twins argue and Lizzie says that codependency takes two. Lizzie admits she can be needy and selfish, but she thinks Josie’s happy to hide behind her because she’s afraid to be herself. Josie tries to leave and the fight gets physical or rather magical. Josie magically smashes Lizzie into her headboard and then runs away saying she’s sorry.

Raf’s trying to calm down in the gym when he comes across Jed who bluntly tells Raf to get some help. He explains werewolves follow the leader and when the leader is out of control they get hurt. Jed says not to repeat his mistakes.

Hope talks to Freya (Riley Voelkel) and understands the merge now. She tells Ric that the twins are spiraling and he needs to tell them ASAP.

More on Malivore. TRIAD evolved into a monster clean up and grew through the years. Clarke’s immortal by the way, but he got lonely and revenge wasn’t that sweet. So, he threw himself into dear old dad, but his father ignored him. He did this for decades until he threw him up, after Landon’s pregnant mother. It was all the humans thrown in that gave the golem enough genetic material to reproduce and he felt for Landon’s mother, in a highly violating way. Clarke’s mission was to find Landon and use him to save the golem.

Hope gives the Hologram Landon a third try. She admits she did want to protect him, but she also feels like a mistake and was worried about him bailing. Hope feels like she loses people because maybe it’s because she shouldn’t exist. She apologizes and then, after admitting she loves him, comes to a realization. Landon is in trouble. With a little help from Roman, who reassures her she’s not a mistake, she realizes TRIAD took him.

Ric sits the twins down and explains the merge. When Gemini twins turn twenty-two years old there has to be a merge. It’s a battle of wills and the stronger twin absorbs the weaker twin’s best qualities leaving the other twin dead. In the past the winner would lead the coven, but the coven is dead. Unfortunately, that’s not an out because it’s a curse. Ric apologizes for lying, but admits he just didn’t know how to tell them something so awful.

Back at TRIAD we see Agent Clarke, who’s first name turns out to be Ryan, telling Landon he has a choice to make about helping them. He says TRIAD, shocking no one, is bad and is actively searching for ways to use the pit against the big three. He says their father was just balancing nature and there’s no danger from their father. Ryan states to save his friends Landon has to open Malivore and destroy TRIAD. Landon picks out the third key.

Ric goes to Dorian, who’s been moonlighting as a bartender, and asks him to come back. He needs him and Dorian admits he loves the kids and wants them to be able to become their best selves. It looks like the episode is gonna end on a happy note, but wait…Veronica figures out Clarke’s a double agent and took Landon. TRIAD’s going to storm the Salvatore School.
