In the first story Tyler (Niall Cunningham) storms into the house and Clementine (Hunter King) explains to Tim (Dan Bakkedahl) that tonight was the first time Tyler’s band played to an empty house. Tim asks if the band performed tonight and Tyler tells him they’ve played every Friday night for a year. Tim confirms he means every Friday, but Tyler questions why he bothers anymore.

Later, Tim expresses his guilt to Heather (Betsy Brandt), asking what kind of parents don’t support their kid. Heather replies that they can’t support all of Tyler’s dreams, but Tim admits he knows what it’s like to have parents who don’t believe in him. He tells her that his parents never came to one of his diving meets and she tells him to go look at his old diving medals.

Tim brings Tyler to a recording studio, telling him he rented the space for him to record a demo. Tyler tells him he didn’t have to do this, but Tim tells him he’s a born musician and tells him to get in there. Tyler struggles with singing and the Engineer (Miles Dausuel) tells him to pick it up from the chorus. Tyler continues to sing badly, and Tim asks to talk to Tyler.

Tim asks what the problem is, and Tyler replies that he’s terrible. Tim denies it, and the engineer tells Tyler he’s not great. Tim tells him not to say that despite knowing he’s bad and the engineer tells him that Tyler can still hear him. Tyler declares that he doesn’t have what it takes to be a musician and that he’s known for a while.

Tim finds Tyler sitting on the steps outside and tells him he’s proud of him. He assures him he’s not the only one who’s given up on a dream. Tim tells him that he didn’t have the ears for diving, as he developed swimmer’s ear. However, it helped him realize that he wanted to be an ears, nose, and throat doctor.

Tyler asks if he’s saying he could be a doctor, and Tim tells him there’s no way he could be a doctor. Tim promises he’ll find his own path, and that he can return to music whenever he wants to. Tyler asks if he’s ever returned to diving, and Tim admits he hasn’t in a long time. Tim goes to the diving board as Tyler pulls a poster for his band off the bulletin board. Tyler sees a flyer requesting companions to elderly rich women and takes a number as Tim flops into the water.

In the second story, Jen (Zoe Lister-Jones) complains about her heartburn and tells Greg (Colin Hanks) that she wants to look at him from across the room. She explains that the smell of his nosebreath makes her nauseous. He tries to breathe out the other nostril, but Jen continues gagging.

Greg asks what else is bothering her and she tells him the way he says his s’ makes her want to vomit. Later, Greg asks Jen what happened to his yogurt and she tells him she threw it out, as the word yogurt makes her sick. She thanks him for being so understanding and kisses his facemask.

Later, Greg comes out of the bathroom in full winter gear and complains about the temperature. Jen tells him the sound of his pee is deafening and tells him to pee sitting down. Greg refuses, telling her that he’ll stick to the cold seat if he sits down. He goes to change the thermostat and sees that it’s at sixty-two degrees.

Jen asks him to change it to sixty, and he reminds her the system will freeze if it goes any lower. She replies that the AC guy isn’t having the baby and Greg changes the temperature. He lies on the bed and she tells him to stop moving. Greg explains that he’s shivering and asks for the blanket.

Jen tells him she needs it to completely cover her body, asking him to face the other way and put the mask back on. Greg declares he’s done being treated like the Elephant Man and she tells him she only said that when he was eating soup. He reminds her she wouldn’t let him chew and tells her the pregnancy has also been hard for him.

Jen gets offended and Greg points out that she can do things however she wants. She gets up and changes the thermostat to the fifties, while Greg tells her he’s more a fan of the eighties. He breathes through his nose and apologizes when Jen throws up in the toilet.

When Greg comes home, he greets Jen and Lark (Ana Sophia Heger), takes his covered tray of food and eats outside. Greg and Jen share a look through the glass and hold their hands up. Jen gets nauseous as Greg’s nosebreath appears on the glass and Greg wipes it away.

In the third story, John (James Brolin) rolls Joan (Dianne Wiest) through the house to where Heather, Matt (Thomas Sadoski), and Greg hold up a “Welcome Home” sign. John tells them that Joan took her surgery like a champ, which is how she got injured. Joan reminds him that everyone knows she was injured during sex.

Heather tells Joan to let them know what they can do to help, but John assures her that Joan has all the help she needs. Joan is horrified that he’s going to take care of her, but he reminds her he’s the one who hurt her. Joan tells them to keep their phones on as John rolls her away. Greg asks if they should tell John that it’s easier to push the wheelchair without the brake, but Matt says no as it would require them to raise their voices.

John tucks Joan into bed, apologizing that it took so long to get up the stairs. Joan tells him she’s hungry and asks if he can manage to make oatmeal. John is confident and later brings the tray to Joan’s bed. She is in disbelief that he made it himself, and downstairs John tells Heather that Joan loves her food.

John thanks her for being there and asks her to keep in on the down under. He clarifies that it’s how Australians say down low and Heather promises not to say anything to Joan. John asks Heather for a smoothie for Joan and a milkshake for himself. He tells her they’re out of ice cream and makes a shopping list for her to get at the market.

Tyler and Clementine visit Joan bringing flowers that Clementine tells her Tyler got for her and a generic card. Joan asks John if he made the grilled cheese and he claims he did. Tyler remarks about how much John has been stepping up and Joan spits out the grilled cheese. Joan comments that the use of Gruyere cheese means that he actually went to the market. She is angry that she’s been doing all of the cooking and cleaning for fifty years when John is secretly Martha Stewart.

Downstairs, Heather tells John that the laundry needs to wait until she’s done with Joan’s ziti. John tells her that the ziti is for him and Joan wants a salad. Heather tells John to have Matt and Greg deal with it, commenting that they were supposed to relieve her of her duties. John tells her he told them not to come so that the food quality wouldn’t drop. He asks for a crab benedict the next morning, adding that Joan just wants a bagel. Heather tells him she came to help Joan and declares she’s out. John pleads with her, but she leaves.

John brings Joan a pasta dish with uncooked pasta, ketchup, and uncooked hot dogs. Joan demands to know that is going on, and John tells her that Heather has been doing everything. He explains that he wanted to take care of her and asked if she’s mad. She tells him she’s thrilled, explaining that she thought he was lazy when he’s really just incompetent.

In the final story, Matt and Colleen (Angelique Cabral) give Morgan (Joey King) a look book of them to convince her to let them adopt her baby. Morgan complains about her drink and loads it with sugar before determining her gum is the cause, sticking it under the table. Matt and Colleen show her the cover of the book has them dressed up as minions for Halloween and Morgan comments that she loves Halloween, as it’s the night where all crime is legal.

Morgan calls the person she’s texting a “Basic B,” explaining that she’s been giving her a hard time since she found out she’s pregnant. Matt realizes through her comment that the “Basic B” is her mother. Morgan explains that her mother wants her ex-boyfriend’s number, exclaiming that she can’t believe they’re getting back together. Morgan declares she has to go the bathroom, telling Colleen she should be glad that she can’t get pregnant.

Later, Matt and Colleen assure each other they’re doing great and kiss each other. Morgan remarks that that they’re adorable and that she’s weak for them. However, she tells them that her next couple arrived early and introduces them to Bradford (Kayvon Esmaili) and Poppy (Kate Gilligan). The meeting is awkward and Matt and Colleen watch as Poppy gives Morgan their look book on a tablet, telling her she can keep it.

Outside, Matt declares they shouldn’t have put the minions picture on the cover and reminds her she told him they shouldn’t bring a gift. Colleen tells Matt that she doesn’t want them to turn on each other due to his screw-up. Sherri (Carla Jimenez) tells Lucas (Vivaan Bisoi) to not let another kid bite him and asks Matt and Colleen how the interview went.

Matt and Colleen believe they messed up and continue to blame each other. Sherri tells them that’s marriage and is sure that everything went fine. Colleen admits she didn’t know it would be a competition, but Sherri tells them that Morgan is taking a bus home today and urges them to be patient.

Matt and Colleen approach Morgan at the bus stop, and she remarks this is weird. They give her their gift, a blank look book, and Colleen explains that they plan to fill it with future memories of her baby. Morgan tells them she can’t accept it, telling them she loved the look book with them as minions on the cover. She explains that the movie reminds her of her dad, and that she saw the picture as a sign that this was meant to be.

Morgan confirms she’s choosing them and tells them not to cry. She tells them her bus is leaving soon and asks if she can move in with them. They say yes and she says goodbye to them. After she leaves, they kiss as they celebrate that they’re having a baby together.
