Interviews
Lindsie Chrisley – Chrisley Knows Best
Q) I was wondering; we haven’t got to see that much this season. Is it because you guys had your family move to Nashville?
A) Yes, currently I’m still living in Atlanta, but towards the end of the season you will see me more. I stay pretty active with Jackson and so I participate when I can and then, you know, some things don’t really involve me on a daily basis. So I’m in and out because I am the only child that’s fully grown with a family of my own.
Q) What did you think when they told you they were moving to Nashville?
A) I was a little upset, but I expected it because I knew that they weren’t going to let Savannah go that far without them being there. So I kind of expected it, but honestly, it’s only a 3 1/2-hour drive, so it’s really not that bad. And I feel like it’s a good little getaway for us whenever we go.
Q) Did your son Jackson like being on the show?
A) Honestly, he doesn’t really know that he’s on TV yet. I haven’t really crossed that bridge yet. I think he just thinks that it’s normal. I have videoed him all the time and so I don’t think that he thinks that the cameras are not normal because they’ve been around since he was born.
Q) What is the best piece of parenting advice that your father has given to you?
A) The best piece of parenting advice? I would definitely say to expect the unexpected. He always tells me you’re so planned. You’re so organized – you’re so this, you’re so that. And I think taking a little bit of his advice – I’m a Virgo so I’m super planned and organized and just taking a little bit of his advice and going kind of on the whim sometimes has been super helpful because with kids you can’t have everything so planned and so structured as much as you want to
Q) We know that Julie is actually a great cook and she does amazing things with her food. Is there one dish or something that you really like to make over the summer that reminds you of her?
A) Well, she’s a much different cook than I am. I tend to cook more organic and very healthy and she is a southern cuisine…She is a connoisseur of southern cuisine. So I do love her roast – her pot roast recipe. It’s great. Her macaroni and cheese recipe is great and her banana pudding recipe is absolutely phenomenal.
Q) What do you like best about being a mom? And, of course, how do you balance the everyday struggles of being a mom while balancing being on the show as well?
A) Absolutely. What I like best about being a mom is truly the fact that I have experienced unconditional love. And I think whenever you get married and you do all of that, you think that you really love that person, until you have a child and then you still love that person. It’s just a different kind of love and just being able to see him grow every day and be able to see all of the little things that he goes through. He is in so many different learning curves and being able to kind of follow him along and guide him and the best direction that I know how has been the best part of being a mom for me. As far as balance is concerned, I think just like any other mom that has a career, I’m trying to do the best that I possibly can to be the best mom that I possibly can be. When we film, of course, Jackson is with me all the time. So it has been challenging sometimes, but it’s also very rewarding and I think lots of moms can relate because my job really being on the show really isn’t a job, but you know, it’s really no different than having a career. I’ve really enjoyed it.
Q) What has been the evolution of Lindsie throughout CHRISLEY KNOWS BEST? How have you changed? How excited are you for Chrisley’s to continue in the fall? And what’s that been like for you and Jackson together?
A) I think that we all have changed and I think that this – in our natural progression of life things evolve and you change. And I came into this pregnant and now I have a three-year-old. So I have learned throughout the span of CHRISLEY KNOWS BEST – I have learned how to be a mom. I got pregnant right away when I got married so learning to be a mom and try to be like a good wife and all of those things I have learned while being on TV and to also juggle being on the show and having my life, open for people to see everything that they want to see. So…
Q) And what’s one of your favorite things about being on CHRISLEY KNOWS BEST?
A) I think to be able to have people be able to watch us and to get a little relief from their everyday life to realize that there are more stupid people in the world like us than what you are. And I think for people to be able to relate to what’s going on in our everyday life. So many people have 18 and 19 year olds and kids that are grown and grandbabies and just to be able to relate to the different life phases that are on the show.
Q) What are three of your favorite or core parenting advices or values that you live by?
A) Bedtime – naptime, diet definitely. When he was born I was all about, you know, researching, you know, organic options for him. I started making baby food when he was eight months old. I kept him on milk for longer than what most do. He just wasn’t ready for food. And definitely just love. I mean I think that you have to let your babies just be babies and just love them unconditionally and wrap your arms around them and just pray for them.
Q) I know you’ve explained in the past that you are really passionate about education and reading time when it comes to your parenting style. Can you please explain that a little bit further?
A) Yes. Education, to me, is so super important and especially reading. Because reading is such a fundamental aspect of overall learning and, you know, I’ve read so many things about different articles and different articles in books and whatever you want to call it about how literacy plays such an important factor in kids wanting to learn. And if Jackson – he has shown so much interest in other, you know, math and shapes and colors and all of that stuff just from books. And if kids really can get in a book and be able to relate the book to other ways of learning, whether it’s reading or math or, you know just site words or whatever. It’s so super important and that is something that I have stressed. If I’m not at home at bedtime, which I normally am, my husband always makes sure he reads to Jackson. Because I do not want that to ever slip.
Q) What was the best piece of parenting advice that you received from your mother?
A) From my mother? Well I will say my parents don’t give me a ton of advice because they say I’m a great mom. So they don’t give me a ton of advice, but my mom always tells – one thing that she consistently says is that I’m such a hover for Jackson and if other kids like try to touch him or harm him or whatever, especially like Chloe is a good situation – a good example. They’ll fight and Jackson will come to me crying and I caudle him and she just tells me – just try to stay out of it as much as you can and let him work it out himself. Because that is so true. It’s just hard as a mom to sit back and to not want to interfere. Because I feel like I’ve done that since the day he’s been born. But it is very true, they do figure it out on their own.
Q) From somebody who is from a large family, how do you think that will play into your overall plan of you growing your own family and what have you always enjoyed best about coming from such a big family who is very involved in your day to day life?
A) Absolutely. I think if you come from a big family you feel like you have all the family that you need. So having a large family of your own is not super important to me, but at the same time I loved having brothers and sisters. I mean I don’t know what it would have been like if I didn’t. As a child I always said, oh, I want to have one baby and I want it to be a boy and that’s what I got. But now as Jackson has gotten a little bit older, you know, now he’s asking, I want a sister – I want a brother. So I think that we will eventually expand our family and we do have , plans to do that. Just whenever God’s time, you know.
Q) What are your top three favorite things to do with Jackson?
A) I love to take him to the pool, I love to take him to the library and we love to go to the lake.
