Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Guitar based indie rock with dreamy synths and sentimental melodies!

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Joan Jett, Chrissie Hynde, Talking Heads, Tom Petty, The Killers, Sharon Van Etten and Florence & The Machine.

Q) Your debut solo album Hey You came out August 5th. What was your song writing process like? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) Usually, I sit down with a guitar or synth and try to find a chord progression to sing along with and find melodies and words that start clicking. Sometimes I’ll work on a small part and let it sit for a while. Other times it comes together all at once.

Q) Do you have a track that stands out from the album? Or any that you found more challenging to record?

A) My favorite track at the moment is “Temporary Letdown.” It’s a song I had released before but decided to re-produce in a more updated way that I ended up resonating with much more.

Q) The album comes out in August. How do you plan to celebrate the release?

A) I’d love to have an album release show in Los Angeles – it’s in the works currently. I’d also like to tour the album when the time is right.

Q) With some previous experience touring with Overcoats and Alex Lahey, having recently scored a spot playing “Saturday Night Live” with Olivia Rodrigo, and currently hitting the road with Halsey – where are some of your favorite places to perform?

A) Playing at Hollywood Bowl with Halsey was one of my favorite shows. It’s just one of those places that growing up in California and living in Los Angeles that I’ve always dreamed of performing at.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I’d love to collaborate with some of the artists I’ve grown close to as friends through touring – Lauren Ruth Ward, Robert DeLong, Miya Folick and Your Smith to name a few.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) MUNA’s newest album.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from exploring the album Hey You?

A) I always love to let people create their own stories out of songs without telling them what to think first. The beauty in music is that you can create your own world from the ways that you relate to someone’s lyrics and melodies.
