Interviews
Louis Knight – Twenty, Twenty-Two
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Never Enough.”
A) I wrote this about my last relationship. She had said to me that no matter what she did, it never felt enough for me. I also never felt enough in the relationship. I think that’s something a lot of people can feel when there’s an imbalance in a relationship.
Q) Since you are a part of social media, what kind of fan response have you been receiving to the single?
A) It’s been so positive which has been lovely. It’s amazing to see my music resonating, and to share parts of my life that otherwise would be hard to talk about without music.
Q) In what ways have fans been saying that the song resonates with them?
A) I think a lot of people have felt this way before in relationships. When it’s not working, but you’re holding on so tight.
Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?
A) So far there actually isn’t a video, but I’d love to get one done at some point soon!
Q) What are some themes you will be exploring on your upcoming EP Twenty, Twenty-Two?
A) Love, Happiness, and Mental Health.
Q) Where does the title of the EP come from?
A) 2022 is the year I would have graduated from college, and I’ve always told myself that I would have some sort of footing in the music industry by then. I really hope that with this, that is the case. I also wrote all these songs from the age of 20-22 x
Q) Which track(s) on the EP holds a special significance for you and why?
A) I think “When the World Starts Running Out.” It talks about dealing with depression and trying to find your way out of that. During that time my relationship with songwriting got pretty messed up and I stopped for a while. One of my biggest fears is that one day I won’t be able to write another song. Because music has been my biggest outlet and at most times, my greatest source of happiness, that idea terrifies me. That’s what the song is about and why it is so special for me. Writing it helped me out of that place.
Q) What song on the album challenged you the most creatively or lyrically?
A) I think the intro! It’s always something I’d wanted to do and one day in the studio I was working with Francisco Martin on another song, and I said, “I have an idea,” and just asked him to go along with it. I laid down the synth pad chords and said to start recording. I closed my eyes and let my subconscious thoughts start to surface. It all came together fast.
Q) What do you hope listeners take away from exploring your music on Twenty, Twenty-Two?
A) That there is so much beauty in the world, so much love, yet also so much pain. And sometimes it’ll all come down on you like a tsunami. But no matter what, keep moving forward. You’ve got this and it’ll all be okay.
Q) What advice would you offer those looking to get started in the music business?
A) Try to put your truth down onto a page. Explore sounds, lyrics, artists and find what it is that makes you feel something deep down. Then, try to channel that into the music you want to make. Other than that, start on all the TikTok/reels/shorts la di da that we must do in this day and age. [laughs] We can’t pass on any opportunity to be heard. ❤️
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is just the beginning I promise, and I can’t wait to meet you at a show soon! x
