Lucifer – Chloe Does Lucifer
By: Paige Zinaman
What could be better than wine and music while laying by the fire? How about wine, music and laying by the fire playing Monopoly? This is exactly what Lucifer (Tom Ellis) and Chloe (Lauren German) did with Trixie (Scarlett Estevez). The trio were having what seemed to be a normal family night in, which is new to Lucifer. So, when they were picking a piece for Monopoly Trixie tells Lucifer it’s going to cost him for the top hat when he tells her to name her price. She tells him that it’s not going to be the Monopoly money that does it. Later that night, Lucifer arrives at his penthouse to find music and strobe lights playing. As he makes his way over to the bar to shut it off he is surprised to find Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) waiting for him. They talk as Amenadiel points out how boring everyday life is and Lucifer tells him that he’s not boring. Amenadiel brings up Linda (Rachael Harris) when Lucifer tells him that she is taking time off to handle a death in the family, which surprises Amenadiel who proceeds to leave telling Lucifer he’s going to check on her. Before leaving he tells Lucifer that he likes the new Lucifer and that the boring life suits him.
The next morning Lucifer and Chloe arrive at a crime scene to find Ella (Aimee Garcia) going over the body and Dan (Kevin Alejandro) comes over telling them who the victim was and that he had them run her name through the database and found nothing. Ella informs everyone that they are looking a murder weapon that’s small, but can pack a punch. Lucifer spots a woman who is taking pictures of herself and the victim’s body. Dan tells them that she’s the victim’s roommate Esther (Mikaela Hoover). Lucifer says that she’s clearly upset and he must go comfort her. Chloe goes with him, but tells Esther that she can’t be taking photos of the crime scene. Esther asks for one with the cute detective and when Lucifer agrees she hands him the phone and walks over to Dan. Lucifer grumbles and goes to take the photo when Chloe pulls the phone from his hands. Chloe asks Esther questions about Kim and when Esther tells them that she was yelling at someone on the phone the night before, but she thought it was the Thai place. Chloe asks if she knew what time it was Esther asked for her phone back because she was about to leave and she posted the perfect photo before going. She pulls up the photo and tells Chloe and Lucifer the time the call happened.
Ella traced the phone call to a place called Top Meet. Chloe and Lucifer go and meet up with Mack (Michael Rady) who is the CEO of Top Meet. He thinks that they were there for the interview process to gain a profile. Lucifer goes to talk to Mack who tells him that he was talking about Chloe and that she is what he built Top Meet for. Chloe tells him that they are there investigating a murder when he tells her that she got more interesting. Chloe explains he did too because she was just notified that the victim was fighting with him on the phone. Mack takes them to his office where Chloe asks him why he fought with Kim if he didn’t know her to which he says it was because she was nuts. Mack tells them that he knows Kim’s type and when they don’t pass they get pissed. It seems she wouldn’t take no for an answer so she hacked into his app and their users complained because no one joined to meet up with some nobody so they had to kick her off. Chloe tells Mack that she needs to meet with everyone that can confirm his alibi and a list of everyone who complained about Kim. Mack tells her that he can’t do that because of the amount of celebrity clients they have and that their whole app is built on their privacy agreement.
Ella is on the phone with Chloe carrying a box containing bagged evidence and files pushing the door open to her lab when she is startled by Charlotte (Tricia Helfer). This causes her to drop what’s on top of the box. Charlotte picks up the bagged knife that slid across the floor to her foot and walks towards Ella asking her about the darkness Ella sees in her. She tells Ella that she’s trying to address it and wants to fix it and asks when and where she sees it. Ella points out her and the knife and the darkness being there and now. Charlotte realizes how she may seem and puts the knife on the table not realizing she was stalking towards Ella like she was. Ella tells her that Charlotte is a little better, but she’s still not showing all rainbows and sunshine. Charlotte replies that she wouldn’t stab her in the lab with all the cops around. When Ella didn’t laugh Charlotte tells her that it was funny to which Ella tells her it was funny and dark. Charlotte asks Ella to help her be good and steer clear of literal Hell. Ella tells her no and that she’d love to help, but it’s super busy. Thankfully, she’s saved when Dan comes in and leaves Dan alone with Charlotte. Their awkward tension is cut short when Dan starts rambling and leaves the lab.
Linda is on the phone threatening the person on the other line telling them that they are exposing themselves to dreadful consequences and tells them she doesn’t mean bad reviews, but literal hell. Amenadiel is listening from outside the door until she slams the phone back on the receiver. He comes in asking if everything is okay when Linda tells him that she’s trying to plan her ex-husband’s funeral and asks him to pick an urn. When he picks one she clearly has a dislike for it so he picks the other one, which calms her down and tells him he’s just the insight she needed and asks if he’s busy tomorrow.
At the station Chloe, Dan, Lucifer and Ella look over the Top Meet profile for Kim that Ella was able to pull up. It showed that only one person matched with Kim and that the man had set up a date between him and Kim. Ella found from the guy’s profile that he RSVP’d for a mixer that was happening at Top Meet later that night. Lucifer says that he should go because he is the obvious choice. Chloe stops him saying that they need a woman so she’ll go. Lucifer laughs at Chloe for putting herself in a setting like that where she has to flirt. At Chloe’s apartment, Lucifer and Chloe are practicing what Chloe should say by playing with Barbie dolls. When Chloe starts talking about her weekend Lucifer stops them telling her that she’s going to a mixer to hunt down a killer. Lucifer tells her that who he is cannot be narrowed down to just a few tips stating that he needs a drink. Trixie appears and places a juice box in front of him then tells Chloe to not talk about her. Lucifer tells her that they are moving on to role playing and that she will be the new man and he’ll be the new her as Trixie watches amused.
Ella pushes the elevator button and waits for everyone to get out so she can dodge the talk with Charlotte. She thinks she’s in the clear until Charlotte catches up before the doors close. Charlotte tells her that she’s been admitted into the forensic shadow program telling Ella that she will be her student so she can learn how to be good. Chloe makes her way to the bar and orders a drink when one possible suspect arrives. Lucifer tells her that whatever he says to just laugh causing Chloe to cackle when he asks what her name is. Chloe is talking to Benji (Sam Krumrine) about traveling and how she plans to take her daughter camping. Benji tells her that he loves the outdoors and that he is a surfer, which goes great with the outdoors. Lucifer tells Chloe to put her mic back on causing Benji to make a run for it. Benji runs outside and straight into Dan. At the station, Benji tells Chloe that he went on a date with Kim just the other night. She tells them that her roommate was there when he dropped her off and he wanted to avoid Esther.
As Lucifer is going through Esther’s photos online, Chloe catches a dumbbell that was missing at the crime scene and they go to talk to Esther again. Ella, who was hiding behind a wall, goes darting into her lab hoping to avoid Charlotte. She’s looking at the door when she discovers Charlotte walking towards her and she hides on the floor, Charlotte comes in confronting Ella about avoiding her. She tells Ella just to tell her how she keeps her eyes from glazing over when she talks to people leading Ella to discover Charlotte lied about the shadow program, explaining to her even if she was tempted to help she wasn’t going to now. Amenadiel and Linda are on the beach as she points out spots for the tables and tells Amenadiel how many people will be showing up to Reese’s memorial. Amenadiel gets her to admit that this wasn’t about Reese, but about herself and how she’s still not okay about the brush with death she had with his mother. She tells Amenadiel that things would be much better if she had never met him or Lucifer.
Chloe and Lucifer talk with Esther about the dumbbell that’s missing when Lucifer does his mojo on her. Esther admits to wanting to stop posing and lying and that she’s not worldly at all before pulling down a backdrop that she used to take photos and that she does go to an actual gym. Esther tells them that Kim was wanting to be like her and how she was going to get surgery when the money came in. Back on the beach, Linda stands over Amenadiel and apologizes and says she doesn’t regret meeting him. He tells her to lay down next to him. He tells her about when he was an Angel and how he lost perspective until he was down here living with all the struggles.
As Ella and Chloe discuss the case, Charlotte comes in and shows them the connection she found showing them an employment agreement between Mack and Kim showing Kim hired Mack. Putting the pieces together, Charlotte tells them to go to Mack’s place where they are sure to find the murder weapon. Lucifer goes to Mack for a gentlemen’s weekend in Vegas, but is previously engaged with Chloe. Mack says he’s going to grab a beer, leaving them alone. Chloe informs Lucifer about what they’ve found as they discover the murder weapon in the fireplace. After they arrest Mack, Lucifer talks with Linda about embracing his boring side and asks her how she’s doing; they talk and she tells him to spill more about Oscar Wilde.
Ella turns around right as Charlotte was about to knock, telling Ella it was all her own fault that she jumped. Ella thanks Charlotte for helping when Charlotte confesses she stole what she turned over to Chloe and Ella. Charlotte tells Ella she’s been offered a job at the DA’s office and says there are more important things than money when Ella tries to tell her there’s things money can buy. Charlotte tells her that it’s too late and she talked her into it and that she will be around the station more.
