Lucifer – Lady Parts
By: Paige Zinaman
Just like every other week, “Lucifer” keeps fans on the edge of their seats and this week was no different. Episode Lady Parts brought out the technology geek inside the devil himself when he becomes so addicted to his phone with all the many, many functions it has and the games he can play on it. We also learned some of Chloe’s most hidden secrets and got to see Ella in her party girl glory.
The episode focused on the death of two L.A. residents who were poisoned. When two men were out in the woods looking for their crashed drone they discover the body of a young woman, Daria Mitchell. When Lucifer (Tom Ellis) and Chloe (Lauren German) start investigating, he takes her to a house where he suggests she should get since her and Dan (Kevin Alejandro) are going through with the divorce. Chloe tells Lucifer she could never afford a place like that and Lucifer makes the wise remark that she could get a discount because it’s the scene of a murder. When they start questioning the “boyfriend,” he states that he was with another waitress the night of the murder and that she could be his alibi. When they go to question this waitress, they start smelling a foul odor and soon discover another body.
Meanwhile, Lucifer plots to get Chloe to have a little fun and makes a bet with Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt). When Chloe walks into The Lux with forensics, Lucifer seems surprised to see her stating that it was after six on a school night. But before he can question it any further, Maze jumps in and starts asking Chloe to have a drink or two with her when Ella (Aimee Garcia) shows up after having been invited out by Lucifer himself. Soon both Maze and Ella try and get Chloe to have a drink with them. Chloe agrees, but not before giving Lucifer the details on the case saying that both victims were at a rave.
Chloe, being the cop she is, couldn’t just relax as she felt the need to question people about the victims. When Ella and Maze manage to get her to sit still, Linda (Rachael Harris) shows up to have a girl’s night. We then see a bonding moment between the four ladies and soon they become squad goals. They are soon telling each other things that only friends would know, which leads to some brilliant acting from Lauren German. Chloe, believing she can finally trust someone, ells the group the problems that she’s kept hidden for a while and the struggles she’s facing since she and Dan decided on the divorce. Maze, Ella and Linda seemed surprised that Chloe was telling them as much as she was, but not shocked that even though she was drinking she was still policing. She spots a man who had the same symbol on his wrist that the two victims had on theirs. When Chloe goes to ask the man about it, she gets interrupted by the man’s girlfriend who mistakes Chloe as just another woman trying to hit on her man. Seeing this happen, Maze steps in but the only thing that happened was a huge bar fight which finds Linda hiding under the bar. But finding out this info Chloe goes to Dan and tells him she needs him to go undercover with Lucifer and Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside). They tell Dan he needs them because everyone could tell he was a cop. As Lucifer and Dan find the bartender at this sex club, he informs them that the man the victims were with was with another woman. Meanwhile, Amenadiel is on the verge of unconsciousness when Lucifer goes to get him so they could head out, leaving a hot mess and having Lucifer yet again reaching for his phone to record it.
When Lucifer and Chloe go find this other girl who was a sorority sister with the other two women to tell her she’s a suspect, she pulls a box cutter on Chloe. She starts telling Lucifer and Chloe how she should have been bigger and better than she is, as she talks Chloe manages to get out of her grip and take her down rather forcibly with a yoga mat. Once again Lucifer remarks to Chloe that she should have a place like that earning yet another look from Chloe.
Towards the end of the episode we see Maze waiting for Chloe. She tells Chloe that even though she would beat up someone for everyone that doesn’t mean she didn’t mean it when she did it for Chloe. She then offers a deal to Chloe, that they move in together. Meanwhile, Amenadiel and Lucifer have a brother-to-brother moment where Amenadiel warns Lucifer that the deal he made with God should be honored otherwise God might go back on it and Chloe could be seriously hurt. Lucifer is adamant that God wouldn’t go back on it but even as he speaks his voice breaks a little showing that he truly cares what happens to Chloe even if he doesn’t want to show it.
Standout Moments:
*Lucifer becoming addicted to his phone just like a normal mortal.
*Chloe struggling with very real hard ships due to the divorce.
*Epic bar fight with Maze, Chloe, Ella and Linda.
*Amenadiel being every bit the big brother helping Lucifer.
*Chloe opening up to Maze, Ella and Linda.
*Lucifer showing he truly cares about Chloe even as he denies to everyone, including himself.
*Chloe sending a selfie of her flipping the camera off to Maze.
*Maze and Chloe form a strange yet totally relatable friendship.
