Lucifer – Save Lucifer
By: Atiya Irvin-Mitchell
The episode opens with a tour and a murder. While giving a real-estate tour an agent finds a body and a woman standing over the body. And we’re off.
In the station Lucifer (Tom Ellis) tells Chloe he’s had a breakthrough. He hates himself. Chloe (Lauren German) points out that that’s a bad thing, but Lucifer says it is. He’s embracing his devilishness. Chloe feels like they should talk more, but they’ve got a case.
Eve (Inbar Lavi) is not taking the break-up well and Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt)…Well, Maze wants to torture Lucifer for upsetting Eve so much. But Eve doesn’t want Lucifer maimed. She just wants him back. Maze tries to reassure her, but Eve is still pretty upset.
Remember the real-estate agent from earlier? Her name is Beth (Cassi Thomson) and the dead girl at the house was her older sister Megan (Hannah Barefoot). Megan was one half of the real estate twin dream team Megan and Moira. They suspect Moira might’ve killed Megan. Yikes.
Possible sororicide aside, there’s another issue. Lucifer’s got a weird rash that’s spreading. Friendly reminder, celestials don’t get sick, but there’s another issue. Eve, with Maze’s help, shows up to the crime scene determined to win him back. She thinks working with and acting a little like Maze will get his attention, but Lucifer is focused on Chloe. Ouch. Lucifer pulls his partner aside and tells her that his epiphany backfired. He shows her that his rash isn’t a rash as his skin is turning red and leathery.
This takes us to an emergency session with Linda (Rachael Harris). She’s concerned. Lucifer wants her to fix it. But, Linda says, it’s not that simple. If Lucifer hates himself he needs to figure out why. So he goes to Dan (Kevin Alejandro). He asks Dan to tell him reasons worth hating him. Dan starts out with the surface reason and then says that Charlotte’s death is his fault. Lucifer says he needs reasons that are actually his fault and storms off.
More on the murder, Moira called her accountant. Chloe thinks she might be trying to skip town, so they go to talk to the accountant,
Maze and Eve seem to have beaten them to the punch. Eve is worried about how to get Lucifer’s attention. Maze suggests dating someone else, but Eve misunderstands. She thinks Maze means she should make Lucifer jealous. Clearly, Maze is interested in Eve. Also, they’ve got the accountant (Keith Powell) all tied up. The accountant is not happy, but Lucifer has got questions. Why did Moira hate herself enough to kill her mirror image? The accountant insists she didn’t since Moira didn’t call him for money. She called because she thought he killed Megan. He gives them the addresses of Megan and Moira’s properties. She could be hiding there.
Linda and Amenadiel talk about baby names. Amenadiel is very into names that end in “iel,” where as Linda’s going for more mainstream names. He’ll be living on earth after-all. Amenadiel doesn’t seem to agree, but says of course.
Making out with Maze didn’t get Lucifer’s attention, so now Eve is trying to dress and act like Chloe. He’s unphased and focused on Moira. Did killing Megan make the self-hate go away, he asks? She insists she didn’t kill Megan, but someone else might’ve had a motive to. Their business was missing money. Megan said she’d handle it, but later that day Moira found her dead. She ran because she knew how guilty she looked. She suggested Megan’s husband Arnold might’ve done it.
Lucifer loses more control over concealing his devil face. Elsewhere, Dan tries to apologize to Maze for picking a fight. He then suggests she not waste time and tell Eve how she feels. Speaking of Eve, she has made a break in the case. Whoever stole the thumb drive Megan had probably killed her. They’re going to stage a sting to flesh out the killer.
The sting is happening in the form of a party at LUX, but Lucifer’s body won’t stop rebelling. His eyes are glowing red and more of his skin has turned. So, Chloe makes it a masquerade. Eve tries again to win him back. Lucifer doesn’t understand why Eve doesn’t hate him. He didn’t treat her well. Eve says it’s because she loves him.
As that relationship drama is unfolding Maze decides to serenade Eve by singing “Wonderwall.” It’s a great cover, but Eve doesn’t get the feelings behind it. She interprets it as Maze saying she needs to make a big gesture to get Lucifer back.
At the station things get tense. Ella (Aimee Garcia) figured out that Dan tipped off Jacob Tiernan about Lucifer. Dan tells Ella to turn him in. But on the contrary, Ella says she covered for him. Dan doesn’t get why. Ella says she just realized that Dan is in pain and he needs to get some help.
The party is in full swing and Megan’s husband isn’t the killer. This is good, sort of, but the bad news is that Father Kinley (Graham McTavish) has escaped. And in the next scene we learn that Maze and Eve were his unlikely saviors.
Eve thinks that if she figures out the prophecy that Lucifer will come back to her. Eve wants Father Kinley to tell Lucifer that the prophecy is a hoax. Unfortunately, he says Eve’s presence makes him more convinced of its authenticity.
Speaking of Lucifer – he’s freaking out, more than earlier if that’s possible. In addition to the rogue priest his mojo is going haywire. Everyone around him is in a trance-like state confessing their desires without prompting. Except for Chloe, because she’s immune. One confession does stand out though – Beth’s.
In Beth’s family she was always the screw-up. No one thought she could change, except for Megan. That is until Beth lost the money to their family business on a risky investment. Megan lashed out and Beth bashed her skull in.
On a more positive note, Dan takes Ella’s advice. He goes in for a session with Linda. He admits that it has felt good lashing out at Lucifer and blaming him for Charlotte’s death, but the truth is he blames himself. Linda tells him that this is a start and he isn’t to blame, but before they can dig deeper Linda’s water breaks. The baby’s coming!
Maze leaves Eve with Father Kinley to be with Linda in labor. But not before angrily telling Eve she needs to let Lucifer go because he doesn’t love her.
Linda has the baby and he doesn’t have wings. But he does get a name: Charlie. Amenadiel wants to name him after Charlotte. When Linda falls asleep he tells Charlie that they’ll love him in Heaven, where he’ll be safe.
Eve didn’t get what Maze was saying. She’s still focused on winning Lucifer back. Father Kinley interrupts and says he can help. He thinks Lucifer should go back to hell with Eve, but not the way you’d think. He tries to strangle Eve and Eve stabs him in the neck killing him. As he lays dying Eve tells him to deliver a message to the demons: come to earth and save Lucifer.
Lucifer is still in downward spiral mode. He tells Chloe in full on Devil face that he understands his self-hatred now. He hates himself because he poisons everything he touches. Chloe says it’s more complicated than that. She points out that he has always said he hates being blamed for humanity’s sins, but she thinks deep down he blames himself. Chloe tells him that he needs to forgive himself. Lucifer admits he doesn’t know how, but maybe that’s okay. Because of this his wings and skin go back to normal. Chloe tells him maybe this is the start.
But, of course, that’s not the end. Father Kinley rises from the dead, but he’s not himself. There’s a demon inside.
