Lucifer – The Last Heartbreak
By: Paige Zinaman
This episode of “Lucifer” starts off with a flashback of Pierce (Tom Welling) in the 1950’s at a restaurant working as a young woman sits down across from him. He makes it very clear he’s not interested and she leaves. He continues to work when another woman walks over and asks him questions. He tells her that romance for him is just not in the cards. Another man comes over and tells Pierce they need to leave. They go outside when Pierce is informed that two more bodies were found. Back to the present day, Chloe (Lauren German) walks in while Pierce is reading the newspaper and tells him she had a great time last night. As they talk Ella (Aimee Garcia) and Lucifer (Tom Ellis) are watching when Ella points out that they totally slept together to which Lucifer denies. Ella tells him that there’s more chemistry between Pierce and Chloe than there is in her lab, she finally realizes that Lucifer is worried about the possible relationship between Chloe and Pierce will affect him and Chloe’s relationship. She tells Lucifer what he and Chloe have are on another level. Back in the office, Pierce asks Chloe out on a date when Dan (Kevin Alejandro) comes in telling them they have a case of a double murder when Pierce asks him for a copy of that file.
Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) talks to a barista who is very concerned as he’s paying he spots Charlotte (Tricia Helfer) walking out of the coffee shop and runs after her thinking she is still his mother. When he hugs her Charlotte is very taken aback and asks if they know each other when he realizes that she’s not in fact not his mother. He apologizes and leaves her alone. When Chloe and Pierce arrive at the crime scene, Lucifer tells her that he hasn’t once asked about her and Pierce’s night, but that Ella thinks they’ve slept together. When they get to Pierce he informs them that this is a whole new case. Ella informs them that they were drugged and then someone bashed in their chest, Chloe says that they need to talk to whoever had a problem with the couple when Pierce asks which one was married. Pierce informs them that in the 50’s there was a murderer who has this exact same ammo called The Heart Break Killer. Chloe, who has heard of this, continues telling information that she knows. Pierce tells them that the guy who solved the case was an old mentor of his who died a few days ago which they believe caused a copycat killer.
Dan and Trixie (Scarlett Estevez) stop by the apartment to get her stuff when he finds people passed out on the floor and yells for Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) when Trixie tells Dan that there is a man asleep on her bed who smells really bad. At this time Maze is waking up and tells Dan that he found the band. Dan, who is upset that someone was asleep in Trixie’s bed, asks if she’s going through something. Maze denies everything. Dan tells her that she needs to get things cleaned up and that he’s going to have to tell Chloe about it to which she says she could tell Chloe things, too. At the station, Chloe tells Lucifer that Emma Matthews (Amy Tsang) was brought in and that they are ready to talk to her as they head towards the room Pierce asks if he could join in on them. Lucifer stops Pierce before going in telling him he knows what he’s doing and that the role has already been filled. They talk to Emma who tells them she’s not proud of what she’s done, but that the courts forced her into therapy she and Robbie agreed to divorce peacefully. When they were done talking to her Pierce believes she’s innocent because she didn’t know who the Broken Heart Killer is and she had no reason to go after Robbie. When Lucifer says that she could still be a suspect Chloe agrees with him until Dan tells them that another couple was just found in the exact same position as the last ones.
They get to the motel where Ella introduces them to the victims and says they were killed the same way as the other two victims and that the place was wiped clean like the other crime scene. In another flashback, Pierce is back at the restaurant when the same woman comes over and talks to him again and points at the photos of the crime scene. Pierce starts telling her about some of the cases and she tells him that there are people who come in and make sure things are perfect and maybe it’s the same way for the person he’s looking for. Back in the present, Pierce is looking at the security footage on the laptop as Chloe and Lucifer watch as they find a car belonging to a Neil Berger (Joshua Gomez), a former school teacher. Before they can discuss it any further Pierce’s phone goes off alerting them to a hit on Neil.
Amenadiel goes to see Linda (Rachael Harris) about Charlotte being back and that she has nothing to worry about. When Linda isn’t reacting like she’s worried, he realizes that she already knew about Charlotte. She explains to him that she’s already seen Charlotte at her office. Amenadiel asks her if she thought he had the right to know and she tells him that she thought he had already knew. When Chloe, Pierce and Lucifer arrive at the house Joel (Andrew Leeds) is yelling at Neil to stop taking pictures of his house or he’s calling the police. Neil thinks that they are his three o’clock appointment, which Chloe says yes to and they follow him. Back at Linda’s office, Amenadiel is telling her that he may have mentioned a few things he shouldn’t have to her and by the time he realized what he was saying it was too late and that he thinks she has the right to know. Linda tells him that Charlotte is literally a woman who has been to Hell and back and that if he wants to help Charlotte he will leave her alone. Meanwhile, Chloe, Lucifer and Pierce are on Segways as Neil gives them a tour. Chloe starts asking questions to Neil about the killings. That gets Neil to reveal some stuff as Chloe finally reveals herself as an LAPD officer. Pierce goes into the restaurant where he met Kay (Fiona Gubelmann). A lady walks up behind him asking if she can help him she is shocked to see a woman who looks exactly like Kay. He is soon introduced to Maddie, the granddaughter of Kay. He explains that he knew her grandmother back in the day and that she looks so much like her grandmother. He tells Maddie that he used to come in there a lot when he was first a detective. They talk about her grandpa and the cases he solved and then about her grandmother.
Chloe and Lucifer talk about how the case isn’t over and how it’s just the two of them this time and no Pierce. They go talk to Neil about how he could be the copycat killer. He gets too excited about how this could be great for his tourism. Meanwhile, Dan goes to talk to Maze about how Trixie got in trouble in school because of the brownies she brought that sent her to the hospital. Dan and Maze get into an argument where Maze says she’ll move out then continues to say very hurtful things about Trixie. They realize that Trixie heard every word and she goes off running. Chloe calls Pierce who then asks Maddie if she still has some of the files that her grandpa had and she tells him that she should. Chloe and Lucifer get into a little riff about how he doesn’t want Pierce interfering with their partnership. She tells Lucifer that maybe it’s just best that she meets Pierce on her own because they don’t have time to make it all about him since a killer is on the loose.
In another flashback, Pierce is having a drink with Kay when they toss to the Broken Heart Killer being put behind bars. She tells Pierce that maybe now he can take her on a real date instead of just drinks. Pierce tells Kay that he’s transferring out of state which shocks her, causing her to question why he’s leaving. She tells him that she knows why he’s doing it because he’s scared and she leaves. Back in present day, Chloe and Pierce are at the same restaurant looking over the files. They go to Ella who tells them that she knows the radio show and that she loves it. She explains what the radio show does and how the killer probably works on the show. They agree that Chloe and Pierce go undercover as the cheating couple as Lucifer goes as the one Chloe is cheating on. Chance (Mark DeCarlo) yells at Brandon (Adam Sevani) who is late with his sandwich and gets it wrong. Soon they are on air with Chance calling Chloe to get the plan going. Lucifer tells Chance about Chloe. Soon, Lucifer leaves and Chloe shows up at Pierce’s house to start the sting they talk about their second date. Dan is sitting outside in the van when Lucifer shows up and starts asking Dan how he moved on from Chloe. Dan explains how he did get over Chloe and about how he realized he and Lucifer are two different people. Inside, Pierce and Chloe talk about how she doesn’t think it’s a good idea they do this and talk when Dan and Lucifer handcuff Brandon, who informs them that he records all this happening for the show and how he’s trying to be a producer. As they talk a figure starts placing a tube through the window of the house as Pierce and Chloe eat. As they continue to eat Chloe starts to feel very sick then passes out. When Pierce gets up to check on her he too passes out. The masked figure comes in with a sledge hammer and starts to drag Chloe down by Pierce removing his mask. It is Joel as the killer, but he is stopped when Lucifer comes in. He knocks out Joel as he grabs a hold of Chloe when Dan rushes in and checks on Pierce. Amenadiel is back at the coffee shop when Charlotte comes over telling him that he’s following her. She asks him about what he said earlier and pleads with him to explain it to her to which Amenadiel tells her to sit and then tells her that she used to be his mom. Chloe arrives home to see Olga (Susan Berger) watching Trixie. Chloe is shocked to see her and says she thought it would be Maze. Olga tells her that Maze took all her knives moved out. When Olga leaves there is a knock on her door. When Lucifer comes over to asks her to be careful, Chloe asks if he wants to stay and he tells her that there’s a bachelorette party at LUX and he has to be there. When the episode ends Pierce agrees to go out with Chloe and then talks to Maddie about how Chloe is the key to getting what he always wanted.
