Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) My sound is like your grandma’s attic. You literally don’t know what you’re gonna find in there, but when you do it’s something good.😂

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Stevie Wonder, Prince, Solange, the Clark sisters, James Fauntleroy

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Jamie.”

A) “Jamie” is about being in a failing relationship and doing everything you can to save it. It’s kind of a true story.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) Honestly, I didn’t know at first but after the video came out, I had plenty of people DM’ing me saying that they related to the story. It felt really good to know that I was helping someone else with something I had gone through.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) We had to change up the video a little bit because of COVID, but it actually made sense. In the video, I’m arguing with myself as if I’m talking to Jamie, but what I’m saying to “him” I’m also applying it to myself. I wanted to portray that I was hurting myself by letting him in every time.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) It changes. Most times I’ll produce the track then write lyrics based on the track’s mood. Other times, I’ll have a melody and lyrics then produce the track to fit the melody.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) Every hand. [laughs] I’ve produced all of my music myself, but recently I’ve been working with other producers.

Q) What are some themes you explore on your new EP Black Phoeniix?

A) I talk about new beginnings, heartbreak, intimacy, toxicity, depression, racism, faith, love and lots more.

Q) What songs off your EP hold a special place in your heart?

A) My songs are my babies, so I love all of them the same but “idk” holds a very special place in my heart. I got to talk about something that I’ve been holding in for years. That song was the start of my healing process and its helped me become an even better version of myself.

Q) What track challenged you the most to create?

A) “Blonde Boy Pt. 2” was a little challenging to write because I don’t rap, but it was really fun making it.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to your new EP as a whole?

A) First, I hope listeners enjoy this album. I hope this project encourages people to be themselves no matter what (especially new artists)

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I would loooove to work with James Fauntleroy!

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I’ve been blasting “Yasuke” by Flying Lotus. He’s not like anybody else. He’s in his own extremely talented lane.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Social media is really the only way I can connect with fans now and let them know about new projects and things.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you so very much for listening!! Thank you for the encouragement! Thank you for believing in my dream! Thank you for pushing me to be the best I can. I am so grateful to have people like you all in my corner!
