MARG – Moving
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) A dark vibe
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) Nirvana, Lana del Rey, Lorde.
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Moving.”
A) I was really depressed when I made it and bottom line: the world keeps on moving…[laughs]
Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) I feel like you can take the song in many different ways. The world keeps on moving regardless of how you feel/what you are going through, so either choose to try and live in the bright side or drown in the darkness.
Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?
A) I think the video being so raw and relatable to my life personally was the perfect vibe for it. It was just me and my friends having a good night out. So much fun to film, too.
Q) What makes “Moving” the perfect song for Summer?
A) I feel like even though some of the lyrics are really dark it kind of is a song that can also turn over a new leaf! The world keeps on moving, bitch, keep up or stay left behind. (I chose to keep on moving)
Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) I don’t have a set way I write. It kind of just comes out or doesn’t. Sometimes I feel like I don’t even entirely understand what I’ve written until the song is finished and it all of a sudden clicks.
Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) I’ve collaborated with one producer since I made my EP when I was seventeen years old and since then I’ve met others, but I’m there in the room from the first sound to the last. I like to have a producer work with me right now to help create the production of the songs and give it the vibe that I feel is right. I don’t trust too many people with that task.
Q) What can fans expect from a live MARG performance?
A) Vibes!!! Lots of vibes.
Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?
A) Album [laughs]
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) I don’t necessarily have a favorite place. I guess anywhere with good vibes. People who genuinely enjoy live music and connect to what I write/sing.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) Willow Smith
Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?
A) I mean, I genuinely love pop music and I feel like right now the art is suffering in our industry. Everything is about who you know vs talent. I don’t have that many artists in the spotlight who genuinely inspire me currently in that realm. I miss the early 2000’s when things were fresh. I’m sick of hearing the same melodies/lyrics in different variations. I can’t wait for the new SZA album though!
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) I love being able to communicate with my fans so easily. I love to know what they’re up to and how they react and think to the stuff I am sharing with theme
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) Thank you so much for all your support! I really hope you know how much I appreciate you and I can’t wait to keep sharing more of what I am creating with you. 💜
