Interviews
Martin Jensen – Days Like This
By: Lisa Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) I’d describe it as a cross between big-room “EDM” and house with a sprinkle of pop, overall!
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) I’m influenced by a lot of my peers like Calvin Harris, other artists that I’ve worked more closely with like ALOK, Cheat Codes and many more. I always like to feel like I’m pushing myself and surrounding myself with like-minded people when it comes to collaborations, too. Oh, and Taylor Swift. I’m a big, big fan!
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Days Like This.” How did you connect with Jay Sean for the track?
A) The actual production was something that came pretty naturally and with ease to me, the direction that I wanted to take it in, etc. But when it came to wanting to give it this confident, “no-fucks-given” energy I think Jay really delivered! As the track says, “no-one can fuck with me on days like this!” and that was the whole notion we wanted to deliver to kick off 2023!
Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) I think it’s relating to that feeling of being self-assured and telling yourself you’re a badass, even if you mightn’t be feeling it sometimes. Fake it until you make it!
Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) Of course, 100%. I often attend writing camps so co-writing is something that I love to do also, and on collaborations I obviously also work with other producers. But everything I release is exactly what I want to put out, otherwise I wouldn’t even put it in front of a label. Integrity is key.
Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?
A) Not right now, I have so much music under my belt already that shows the full scope of what I have been doing creatively – and this next chapter for me is something I’m really excited to go full-speed with.
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) A number of places but playing back home in Denmark and Europe is always great. The crowds are really crazy in places like London, too! I always want to say Tomorrowland as well. I’m coming back to play this year and it’s the biggest and best festival in electronic music, no contest. So, I’m excited to play for the fans there.
Q) What can fans expect from a live Martin Jensen performance?
A) Lots of high-energy, some classic blends and, of course, new tracks to surprise. It will always be fun, that’s for sure!
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) Taylor Swift, no question.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) I think we all spend so much time on social media, whatever your favourite choice is – TikTok, Instagram, whatever – but it’s the most direct and personable way to reach your fans with no delay. Everything is instant and its exactly what you want to post, to have that direct-to-fan communication is unparalleled.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) Thank you for all your support on “Days Like This!” My new single “What A Night” with VAMERO and Gibbs is out now, and I’m excited to play it for you guys in person at a show soon, enjoy!
