Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Guitar-centric pretty pop music with the best lyrics I can manage.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) I decided I wanted to be a musician because of Modest Mouse and Radiohead.  The Beatles are always a good reference.  Lately, I’ve been inspired by Maroon 5, The 1975 – any band with a five in the name really!

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Game Over.”

A) “Game Over” is about meeting my girlfriend in LA. I was just going out with friends for drinks, not expecting anything, and there she was.  We fell in love really fast without knowing anything about each other, but it’s been great so far!  Game Over *drops mic*

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) Well, I think sonicaly it’s a pretty fun song.  Lyrically it’s about new love and having a good time.  What’s not to like?

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I’m definitely quicker coming up with melodies than I am with lyrics.  Typically I’ll have the music figured out and then I have to fill in the words.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) Prior to “Game Over,” all my songs were more organic, and I shared more of a traditional producer role, working with other musicians.  All my new songs; however, have been collaborators with producers where a lot of the music can be programmed on the computer.  Every project I do is centered around a specific component of my music that I’m trying to improve.  “Game Over” is the first time I really tried to deliver something with an exciting contemporary sound.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Matt McAndrew performance?

A) Lots of jokes! [laughs] That and solid singing, good musicians, good vibes.

Q) Will there be a full EP or album coming in the near future?

A) I’m focused on putting out singles right now.  Expect more frequent releases.

Q) We loved seeing you on The Voice! Have you kept in touch with former coach Adam Levine? What was one piece of advice he offered while on the show that you took to heart?

A) I see Adam whenever I’ve been back on the show, which is always nice!  He told me “to not be fucking nervous!” and that made me laugh and helped me get more confident in the beginning.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I would really like to see what it’s like to write with Paul McCartney.  No explanation needed I feel like! [laughs]

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I’ve been very into the new 1975 singles.  What I love about them is that every time they start releasing new music I’m always very skeptical at first.  Then, it grows on me and I wind up really loving it.  I enjoy being proven wrong.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) I wish I wasn’t part of social media, to tell you the truth.  If I wasn’t doing what I’m doing I would have gotten rid of it a long time ago.  I wind up staring at it all day instead of doing things I actually want to do like reading books and writing songs.  That being said, I do really enjoy connecting with fans and I’m grateful for the ability to do that.  One of my favorite things in the world is releasing music and see people have an excited reaction to it.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I would like to say a very sincere thank you!  I’ve been making music for quite a while now and my dream has always been for people to actually listen to it.  Thank you for sticking with me.  Stay tuned, there’s more on the way!
