Max Greenfield – The Long Arm of the Law
Q. Are there any other current projects that you are working on besides “Veronica Mars?”
A. I’m waiting for a few independent films that I did, G-d willing, one of them is called Cross Bronx and the other one is called When Do We Eat? Veronica Mars is kind of coming to an end right now, at least for the season. I’d love to see it come back!
Q. What can you tell us about those two films and your characters?
A. Cross Bronx I play a high school kid from New York, it’s him and his three friends and they are up and coming in New York, it’s a coming of age story. I play a high school wrestler and they’re all from Yonkers and the Bronx area. When Do We Eat? I play this kid who goes to Stanford, drops out of Stanford, his parents are not very pleased about that. He makes millions of dollars at the stock market, he goes bankrupt, he freaks out and becomes a Hassidic Jew and then goes home for Passover sedar. Cross Bronx is more of like a drama and When Do We Eat? is definitely a broad comedy, and I sing in it!
Q. How did you land the role of Detective Leo, what was your audition like?
A. It was pretty simple, I knew the casting director and she brought me in and I went and read for all the producers and Rob Thomas. It was real simple and they called me and are like we need you down in San Diego to come shoot. Then I got a call back on the show and I started watching all the episodes and it was a lot of fun, it was a lot of fun learning all the back story because there is so much of it and kind of just move the broader story along and it was nice kind of researching that and becoming a part of it.
Q. You’ve appeared on just a couple episodes of the show, any chance we’ll get to see more of you?
A. Yeah, there is a good possibility.
Q. “Veronica Mars” is such an under-rated show, we even heard it might be canceled. Why do you think that more viewers should be tuning into the show?
A. I just think it’s just a good story and all the stories that are thrown at you in the beginning of the season are going to obviously be tied up towards the end of the season, you’ve got your weekly story lines. So, even if you are not up to speed with Lilly’s murder and all the other things, it’s like you at least have that weekly kind of investigation to go through and hopefully that’ll get you hooked on “hey what’s this other stuff going on, whose this girl with the guy,” and all these different other things. Basically I think it comes down to the really good writing, I mean just the story, it’s good, it works.
Q. “Veronica Mars” was featured as a guilty pleasure for adults on the show “Best Week Ever” on VH1. Why do you think it’s such a guilty pleasure for adults?
A. I don’t know my friend Dusty, Dusty’s dad watches the show because he found out I was on it. They were airing a bunch of repeats at the time and I wasn’t on for like three weeks and it got pushed back from when I thought it was going to be on. Then we kept calling him and he’s like “I keep watching the show, when are you going to be on, when are you going to be on?” Turns out before I was on, he was like “I don’t even care, I just like watching the show now. I don’t even care when you’re on, I’m just watching the show.” So, I don’t know, if the story works ,it’s going to work no matter if you are sixteen or if you’re in your forties or fifties. Dusty’s dad has impeccable taste!
Q. How has it been working with the cast?
A. It’s always an interesting thing when you come on to something if they’re already working and running the scenes and I give that crew and that cast all the credit in the world. They’ve started something really amazing and to see it kind of come to where it is and then to come into that as an outsider knowing that you might be there for a little while and kind of reap some of the benefits that they’ve created is like very humbling. Those guys were so welcoming and so nice, all I have to say is that cast and crew is unbelievable.
Q. Do you have a most memorable moment from filming “Veronica Mars”?
A. The 80s dance was pretty funny, seeing 80s kids running around in 80s outfits and the wardrobe department is amazing over there, they really dressed everybody in the most insane outfits. Kind of showing up to the set that day was like whoa, you walk into this big like party and Kristen Bell is dressed like Madonna to the tee. You got everybody else and you got Teddy Dunn looking like the kid from Sixteen Candles and just was really kind of surreal and funny.
Q. What can you tell us about your next upcoming episode of “Veronica Mars” entitled “Betty and Veronica”?
A. The only thing I can say there might be a date. There might be a little date.
Q. Do you have a guess on who killed Lilly Kane?
A. I wish I knew, who do I think did it? You know what, I have no idea, I don’t even have a clue. Every time I think of something or think any story line and how it’s going to end, I’m always wrong. I really have no idea, I’ve exhausted every option at this moment, I’m as curious as everybody else.
Q. How did you get involved in acting?
A. I majored in it in college and then I came out to LA and started going to acting class, I guess you could call it the normal way. Just get into class and start enjoying yourself and making it your work and then the next thing you know you’re on “Veronica Mars.”
Q. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
A. Right now me and my friends are digging up weeds and trying to redo his girlfriend’s backyard. We’re doing some landscaping, I’m quite excited about it.
Q. Is there anything that you’d like to say to fans and supporters of your career?
A. Keep watching and thank you for all the support because G-d knows I could use it.
