Megalyn Echikunwoke – Blast From the Past
Q. Are there any recent projectsthat you are working on?
A. I’ve been doing work on “That70’s Show,” I play Danny Masterson’s half sister and that’s been reallyfun, it’s a really great cast to work with.
Q. As you mentioned, you’ve beenappearing on “That 70’s Show,” how did you land the part of Hyde’shalf sister?
A. Well actually the sister wasoriginally already cast with another person and I remember getting a call fromcasting and I wasn’t available to come in and so I ended up missing it andbeing real sad about it. Then months later I remember them calling andsaying we have to recast and we want to know if you’re available. I camein a very excited person for the week, and so they were already like halfwaythrough the week and I came in and they were in a rush and I guess I did a goodenough job. I ended up learning my lines on Thursday and shooting the showon Friday. It was good for me.
Q. Were you a fan of the show before appearing on it?
A. Yeah I was. I am not a huge TV watcher, but I always loved “That 70’s Show.” I think that it is the best in its genre. It is really well written.
Q. What’s it like getting to work with such a great and hard workingcast?
A. It is awesome! They have been workingwith each other for many years so they are all really tight nit and things runreally smoothly. They all know exactly what they are doing. It’s also kind ofintimidating because you have to be on your toes all the time.
Q. Do you have a most memorable momentfrom filming “That 70s Show?”
A. I don’t know. Just getting to kiss Ashton Kutcher.
Q. You get to play Ashton Kutcher’s loveinterest on the show, how hard is that?
A. It’s not too hard, I mean…he’s prettycute and everything.
Q. After appearing on a show like “24”and “Veronica Mars,” do you try and keep up with what’s happening on the show?
A. A little bit. To tell you the truth, I donot watch much because I am not a TV watcher. I hardly ever watch TV. I reallylike watching movies that I almost forget to watch TV. I know it’s kind of badsince I’m on it.
Q. We read that you really enjoy singing, are you going to be pursuing a singing career and if so, what kind of music areyou most interested in?
A. I do plan on having a singing career. Ireally haven’t adamantly pursued a career in it yet because first I am anactress, that’s my bread and butter. Secondly, I can do so many differentsounds with my voice and not pick just one. So often when you put yourself outthere as a vocalist you have to have one style; you can do pop, or you do jazzor you do R&B and so on. I’m in love with so many different sounds. Icouldn’t just focus on one so therefore I have to try and create my own sound, which is rather difficult.
Q. Who are some of your favorite musicalartists?
A. Right now, my favorite band so far isOutkast. I love them! I love Andre 3000!
Q. Do you have a favorite show that you’dlike to make an appearance on?
A. It would be cool to make an appearance on “Six Feet Under.” I think it’s a really good show. If “Sex in the City “were still on I’d love to do that.
Q. With the Academy Awards around thecorner, is there an actor or film that you’re really rooting for?
A. Yeah, I thought Don Cheadle was reallygood in Hotel Rowanda. I think it was such a powerful movie and it wassuch a great part for him and he did it just so amazingly and outstanding. Itwas a flawless performance, I think. Jamie Fox in Ray was awesome. NataliePortman was really good in Closer.
Q. Is there anything that you would liketo say to fans and supporters of you and your career?
A. Keep watching!
