Megan Knight – Good Luck
By: Lisa Steinberg
Q) Please tell us the story behind your single “Good Luck.”
A) I co-wrote this track with James LeBlanc (who has written for Jason Aldean, Kid Rock and Rascal Flatts to name a few) and Jimmy Nutt (who recently won his first Grammy and Juno for engineering). When we went into the songwriting session, we knew we wanted to make a happy-go-lucky anthem. It was funny because at first when I walked into the studio, I wanted to write a romantic upbeat love song called “Marry Her” and the song quickly took a complete 180 where it was like, “Oh if your lover is still so hesitant about settling down after a long period of time, the message is now like fish or cut bait … aka stop being so indecisive.” [laughs]
Q) Where did the inspiration for this single stem from?
A) I’ve seen a lot of my friends remain in relationships with people they didn’t feel valued by for far too long. They felt unseen, unloved and as if their partner was always on the prowl for something better. Don’t ever settle with that type of person, tell them “Good Luck” and let them get a move on without you. It’s definitely for the better. I promise the universe doesn’t let certain things work out because you’re meant for something better. Remember that any type of rejection is just redirection, listen to the signs. I hope this track inspires people to make their lives the best they can possibly be and get rid of attachments to people that are no good for them.
Q) I feel like it’s such a Summer 2023 bop. What kind of fan response have you been receiving to the song?
A) I have people DM-ing me saying they can’t stop screaming the song in their car. When I play the song live, people are dancing along with smiles on their faces. It’s the best feeling in the world. I definitely want to make more tracks like this that make people feel empowered, and free and remind them that they’re totally in control of their lives.
Q) Is “Good Luck” a teaser for a full album or EP in the works?
A) Shhh! Don’t tell anyone but yes! [laughs]
Q) With the end of summer approaching, do you have any plans for upcoming live performances?
A) I have so many shows lined up that I’m super stoked about, you can find dates near you at meganknightmusic.com.
Q) What song(s) are always your favorites to perform live?
A) I would have to say “Turbulence” and “Good Luck” because people know the words to those songs, and they always seem to put people in a good mood.
Q) What advice would you give to up-and-coming music artists?
A) To stay consistent and write from the heart.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of the music you make?
A) I want to say thank you a million times over. This has not been an easy road but it’s definitely a path I’m sure glad I took. I’m so grateful for each and every soul I connect with daily. I’m truly so thankful that my music has been the door to making so many beautiful connections and a way for me to help people in some way.
