Michael Showalter – Not So Happily Ever After
Q) What are the current projects that you are working on?
A) I just finished this series called “Stella” on Comedy Central. I also just had my movie come out and I’m taking a break.
Q) Tell us about the premise for your film The Baxter.
A) It’s about the guy who is always getting left at the alter in romantic comedies. The movie is told from his perspective.
Q You are the writer, director and star of the film. How did you come up with the concept for it?
A) I just had been watching a lot of movies, a lot of romantic comedies, and I got really interested in this character who we see coming up in a lot of films. I thought it would be interesting to do a movie told from this guy’s perspective.
Q) What was your most memorable moment from filming?
A) Probably the most memorable moment was the first day of shooting, just coming to work and seeing all of the trucks and people there and going, “Wow, I’m really making a movie!”
Q) What was it like working with such a spectacular cast?
A) It was fun! It was a really good time.
Q) Why should people go see The Baxter?
A) They should see The Baxter because it is a sweet romantic comedy and it is fun for the whole family. It’s old fashioned and it has great performances in it. It’s funny, romantic and best of all it’s short!
Q) You are a part of the beloved sketch comedy troupe “Stella.” How did the group get their name?
A) We were doing a live show at The Fez Lounge in New York City. The daughter of the woman that was booking the room that we were performing in was named Stella. We thought that would be a great name for our show.
Q) Does comedy come easily to you or is it something that you are frequently working at?
A) It’s definitely something that I always have to work on. I don’t always feel funny, that’s for sure! It’s just a lot of discipline.

A) It would be Steve Martin and Woody Allen. They just have had long great careers doing comedy and making films. They work in multi-mediums and they have just stayed really current and vibrant.
Q) Do you prefer writing as a team or on your own?
A) I like doing both. I like to work alone and then work with my guys that I work with. I like to keep things interesting.
Q) What do you do in your spare time?
