Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Future soul / R&B / a lil pop/ what is a genre anyway these days…

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Erykah Badu, D’Angelo, Portishead and right now anything early 2000s.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Don’t Wanna Talk.”

A) I originally wrote this song about being cat-called on a walk and getting yelled at for not responding. Once Alfred Nomad sent in his verse it related so much to a former relationship with a toxic narcist ex that the whole theme of the song changed. Jay Cass added the phone sounds in the beginning and end and @theycallmedewy made artwork to match.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I think we can all relate to not being in the mood to talk to someone that’s wasting our energy and it’s ok to say no. We don’t owe anything to anyone.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) Video pending [winks]

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) So, nine times out of ten I write on top of the beat. This song, for instance, was the first song in a SoundCloud playlist of beats for me sent by Sundae Sauce. COVID has changed how I write and in a weird way perfected it. I recorded this song myself. I can now properly record my final vocals.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I vocally produce myself and I’m starting to dabble in production. But none of my songs would be possible if it wasn’t for the amazing producers I’ve worked with; Jay Cass (“Don’t Wanna Talk”), El Train (“Time,” “Nomad Diaries,” “Homies,” “Right Now,” “Different,” “Over & Over”), Jackie Marua (“No Place,” “Summer Greens”), Wes Jones (“Back to Complicated” and my next single), Toolbox (“Wavy”), Gregarious (“Are You Sure,” “How Much Longer”) and so many more.

Q) How do you usually shake off a long day in the studio?

A) Again, since COVID my long days at the studio are at home but I miss long days in studio and I’m excited to do that again. I think I work a lot faster when it’s not just me (and my cat) in the room.

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

A) I haven’t mentioned it yet, but I am planning on releasing my first ever album next year. I have a lot of songs that I’m ready to show the world.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I love performing in London. I’m originally from England. Before the pandemic, I was splitting my time between London and LA. I also performed in NYC in early 2020 and that was amazing because not only has it’s always been a dream to perform there, but my niece who was two years old at the time came up on stage with me to sing her favorite song of mine (Wavy). It was the cutest thing ever.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) In no particular order – I would love to work with Kaytranada, Disclosure, Andre 3000, J cole, 6lack, Jungle and Erykah Badu. The list goes on and on…

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I’m honestly the worst person with new music. I always check out friends’ new music or an artist recommended to me. But, besides that, I just listen to old favs or new music I’m working on.

El Train, Jackie Marua, Toolbox, Desh and Kirby all just released some amazing music.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) I love that you could be on the other side of the world and we can still be connected. It’s amazing hearing from fans and being able to share my journey with them directly.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you always. It means so much to me and I’ve got a lot more coming for ya.
