With one week before the season finale of “Mr. Robot,” the penultimate episode raised more questions than it answered. At the opening of the episode, Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek) forces himself to fall asleep so he can try and observe Mr. Robot (Christian Slater) and beat him at his own game. Joanna Wellick (Stephanie Cornelliussen) and Mr. Sutherland (Jeremy Holm) discuss what to do about the source of the mysterious phone calls.   Angela Moss (Portia Doubleday) sits in the back of a vehicle and is unable to get any answers on where she is being taken. Dominique DiPierro (Grace Gummer) avoids questioning at the hospital and insists that she needs to get back to work. DiPierro berates Agent Santiago (Omar Metwally) for releasing Cisco’s sketch and indirectly causing the mass shooting. DiPierro insists that the Dark Army is a threat and Santiago tells her about the transfer of two trillion dollars to bail out E Corp. Despite DiPierro’s insistence that they need to stop the Dark Army, Santiago tells her that there is nothing they can do about it.

The next morning, the vehicle carrying Angela Moss (Portia Doubleday) arrives at its destination. Silently, Angela is lead through a suburban house to a dark room with an old computer and a fish tank. Angela receives no answers to her questions and is locked inside the room. A young girl appears and tells her that there isn’t much time. The girl starts using the computer and starts asking Angela whether she’s ever cried during sex. Angela refuses to answer and the girl says that she needs to answer or she will be punished, showing her scars that she had previously received. The girl receives a phone call and then resumes her questioning. Angela finally answers no to the question and the girl continues asking her personal and disturbing questions. Meanwhile, Price meets with a government official who warns him that his plan to create his own currency with China’s bailout money is unconstitutional.

Back in the creepy room, the girl continues questioning Angela. She asks Angela if the key is in the room and Angela doesn’t understand the question. The phone rings again and the girl answers before handing it to Angela. The automated voice on the other line continues the questioning. The caller gets Angela to admit that she would use a key to open the door. The girl asks her if the key is in the room and Angela says that that the key was in her fist in her pocket. The girl completes the computer test and leaves the room. Returning from the hospital, DiPierro takes a shower and tries to fall asleep. Unable to sleep, she has a conversation with her Amazon Echo device. She asks Alexa intimate questions as if she is an actual person.

Whiterose (BD Wong) comes into the room and Angela asks who she is. Instead of answering, Whiterose asks her why she didn’t try to leave and Angela tells her that the door was locked. Angela criticizes Whiterose for hurting the little girl, which Whiterose says was makeup as part of Angela’s test. Whiterose tells her that it is miraculous that she is still alive and tells her that she wanted to meet her to find out her connection to Price. Then, Whiterose tells her that her mother and Elliot’s father’s deaths at Washington Township were for a greater purpose and she wants Angela to give up on her crusade against E Corp. Elliot wakes up and finds Mr. Robot looking through papers. He finds what he is looking for and Elliot discovers that he is able to observe Mr. Robot without him knowing. Mr. Robot cracks a code found on an old menu and finds that it contains a phone number. Mr. Robot calls the number and the person on the other end gives him instructions to meet. Elliot follows him out the door through a crowded square.

Angela goes to see Washington Township lawyer Antara Nayar (Sakina Jaffrey) and tells her to forget about the last voicemail she sent. The lawyer guesses that she’s in trouble, but Angela denies this and tells her to stop calling her. Elliot walks through the city and finds that he has lost Mr. Robot. He remembers that he is Mr. Robot and approached the parked cab. Opening the door, Elliot is surprised that the cab driver knows his name. Elliot gets inside the cab and the driver asks for his address. Elliot doesn’t know and to his surprise Tyrell Wellick (Martin Wallstrom) gets in the cab and gives the driver an address. Elliot believes he is hallucinating Tyrell and asks the driver if he can see Tyrell. Elliot panics and screams at the cab driver. The cab pulls over and forces them out. Tyrell tells Elliot that they need to find somewhere safe to talk. Tyrell asks Elliot if he’s forgotten everything and tells Elliot that Stage 2 is ready. Tyrell takes Elliot to see Stage 2 as they walk along the street.
