Mystro Clark – Just a Touch of Love
Q) What are the current projects you are working on?
A) Besides “Lovespring International” on Lifetime, I host “Awesome Adventures” on FOX every Saturday. And, I produce music that is R&B, some hip hop and reggaeton. Also, I have a feature script that I wrote that I’m shopping.
Q) Please tell us about your character, Alex, on the show “Lovespring International.”
A) The premise is a dating service where the staff is just as incompetent as some of the customers, even though they appear to be confident at their jobs. Alex Odom is the videographer. He is a documentary filmmaker who fancies himself as the next Spielberg or even John Singleton. He has never actually finished a film, but he knows he’s a “shooter” and does not let it stop him, at least on the outside.
Q) What made you want to be a part of the show?
A) It’s a good show and it is different from any other show on the air. I think its very clever.
Q) What has been your most memorable moment?
A) So far, the whole first season (which we just wrapped) has been memorable. The cast all gets along great. We all like each other and respect each other. Those moments where we are all on camera together and someone is trying not laugh are the most fun.
Q) Does comedic timing come easily to you or is it something you are constantly working on?
A) I think it comes natural to me, thankfully. I do work on it and practice, but timing I think is inherent. I have been doing stand up for 18 years, so that also helps with timing, but comedy timing on stage and on film are different sometimes. You have to feel it.
Q) What is it like working with such a talented cast?
A) I love it. We all feed off of each other and it makes the outcome much better. You have to trust your other actors to do improv. It’s like a circus act. You have to know when you let go of the trapeze someone will be there to catch you, because we work without a net.
Q) Why should viewers be tuning in to “Lovespring International?”
A) Viewers should be tuning in to “Lovespring” to see some very funny comedy performed by some talented improv actors. Also, the situations are very amusing. It’s different than anything else on TV. It’s time for something different, just like “Seinfeld” was different when it first came out.
Q) You originally studied to be a doctor. What made you want to stop and pursue acting and comedy?
A) After I graduated from college, I decided to take a break. I was already doing stand up so I wanted to see if I could make it into a professional career. I moved to L.A. and gave myself 4 years to do something. That was when I would have been done with Medical School anyway. I ended up getting a TV series, “The Newz,” in three years. I never looked back. I did work in a hospital lab for the first 3 years when I got there. Once I got the show, I thanked them and quit. They asked me if I wanted them to hold my job. I said “No, thanks. I wont be back.” I knew I had to take this opportunity and make the most of it. But, I am thankful to my bosses at Santa Monica Hospital for that opportunity.
Q) How did you feel being hand picked by Don Cornelius to be the new host of the iconic show “Soul Train?”
A) It felt great. I was a fan of the show growing up so I was excited to be a part of it. That was an exciting three years.
Q) What do you do in your spare time?
A) In my spare time, I go to movies, work out, write scripts, make music and generally try to relax. I am also getting my Real Estate license to use in my spare time.
Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?
A) I’d like to say thank you very much for the support. Sometimes, the biggest “pay” you get is knowing people appreciate what you are doing. And since you don’t get to meet all of them, it feels good when you hear something positive. Believe it or not, the negative people voice their opinions more loudly sometimes. So, it is good to hear the positive people. I appreciate making them laugh. I’m glad they can count on me to have a good time. Thank you very much. God bless us all.
