Nagibe Abbud – Amparo

By: Lisa Steinberg

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) My sound is rooted in activism. It’s powerful, emotional, and uncompromising. Every note and every lyric carries a message — about justice, truth, and the fight against corruption. For me, music is not entertainment; it’s a tool to amplify voices that are often silenced.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) To me, in the industry Michael Jackson has always been a strong influence, not only because of his artistry but because he used his platform to speak about the world. I admire artists who are fearless in addressing injustice, who understand that music can be a weapon for change.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Amparo.”

A) This release was born from my community — my followers asked me to create a song that represented their struggles. It’s dedicated to women, migrants and people who wake up every day to fight for justice and for a world free of corruption. It’s not just my story, it’s the story of many.

Xanty [MG] and I were both deeply moved by this story, so we didn’t hesitate to make it happen.

Q) The song is giving voice to women, migrants, and marginalized communities. Why was it so important for you to lend your voice and put a spotlight on such matters?

A) Because remaining silent only protects corruption. These communities live realities that cannot be ignored. As an activist, I feel a responsibility to speak out and music is one of the most powerful ways to bring visibility and dignity to their fight.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) They feel the authenticity. It carries a raw truth — it doesn’t sugarcoat reality. It gives people a sense of recognition, a reminder that they are not invisible and that their struggles matter. That honesty is what creates connection.

Q) The video features collaborators Xanty MG and DJ Sebas. How did the three of you connect to work together on the song?

A) Xanty is a brilliant music producer and a very talented friend. I shared with him the urgency of telling this story, and he immediately understood the mission. The way he translated that into sound was pure magic. Together with Henry Cruz and DJ Sebas, we built something that wasn’t just music but a declaration. The inspiration also came from an experience a close friend lived, which gave the project even more depth.

Q) What is your song writing process?

A) For me, it starts with injustice. Everything comes from real experiences, whether mine or those around me. Activism fuels my creativity — the lyrics and melodies become a way to transform pain, courage and hope into something that moves people.

Q) Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) Not necessarily. Sometimes the story demands words first, like a manifesto. Other times a melody gives me the right energy to speak. What guides me is the urgency of the message, not the order of the process.

Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I’m deeply involved in every step of the process — from the concept and the message to the way the song takes shape sonically. For me, music is not separate from activism; it’s a tool to amplify voices and demand justice. That’s why I make sure the intention behind each sound is aligned with what I want to express. At the same time, when you work with someone as talented as Xanty, everything flows naturally. He truly made magic in the production, which allowed me to focus on feeling and expressing what was inside of me.

Q) With your new single out now, is this a prelude for an EP or full album?

A) For us, inspiration always comes from real experiences and the need to tell true stories. It’s never about releasing music just for the sake of it. Each project has to carry meaning. And, yes, this release is opening the way for an upcoming body of work that continues to fight corruption and push for justice through sound.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) For me, collaborations happen when there is a shared vision. I don’t chase names; I build bridges with artists who, like me, want to turn music into activism. That’s what makes a collaboration meaningful.

Q) What artist/musician are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I listen to everything — from the Golden Age of music to the most current sounds. Classical compositions, Spanish ballads, pop in English, regional Mexican, rap and rock classics all inspire me in different ways. What matters to me isn’t the genre, it’s the honesty and passion behind the music.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you for standing with me. Supporting what I do is also supporting a movement — one that refuses to stay silent in the face of corruption and injustice. I hope the words I share empower you to believe in change, because together, we are stronger.
