Q) Welcome to Wednesday nights with “The Goldbergs!”

A) I’m so happy we moved to Wednesday nights because some of the shows on I have been watching for years now. So, to be able to be in that lineup is just so amazing! I like the lineup because all of the shows have to do with families and they are all so different. You can see the similarities between each show. Being on “The Goldbergs” is so much fun and it is unique from the others because it is about the 80’s. It’s cool to see all of the shows together so you can see the differences and similarities between all of them.

Q) What can you tease is coming up this season with your character Dana?

A) Something that comes up this season is that Dana starts becoming a young adult. You get to see her character transition from the young girl that we knew before and is now turning into more of a teenager now. It’s fun! We have a lot of subjects of how I am starting to get older, but Adam is staying the same age. It’s fun to see how our characters differ and how we are growing.

Q) How have you matured through the roles that you have played?

A) Right now it is especially cool for Dana because, for me, I see a lot of similarities between her and I. On the show, you have the relationship between Adam and I and I think a lot of people (including me) can relate to having that first relationship that is kind of awkward and not really understanding what you are doing, but it feels right. I think I definitely have a lot of similarities to Dana. With the other roles I play, I think I am not anything like them. I just did a horror film called Mockingbird where I play a serial killer. So, it is kind of cool to see the differences between my characters that I play. I feel like with every character, I tend to put me in them a little bit. Everything that I do, you’ll kind of see something that I do, too. I tend to put some of myself into my characters, which is so much fun for me.

Q) What did you add to this character, Dana, that wasn’t scripted for you?

A) When they originally wrote Dana, I feel like she is was a lot sweeter than I make her. I add Natalie to the character and add sass, I would say. With some of the line reading, I tend to do it more sassy then I think Dana would do it. So, I definitely add a lot of sass to my character!

Q) Was there instant chemistry when you began working with costar Sean Giambrone?

A) When I first met Sean, we automatically clicked. I love this kid! He’s one of my really good friends in real life. It was kind of there. When I first met him, I had so much fun talking to him. He’s the sweetest kid, ever! We had our first kiss episode, which was a little strange, but he made it easy. It wasn’t awkward at all because he is such a funny guy and so sweet. It just didn’t make it awkward.

Q) What have you taken away from your time working on “The Goldbergs?”

A) I feel like I’m a better actor coming off the show because there are such great actors on the show like George Segal, Jeff Garlin and of course Wendi McLendon-Covey. Watching them work, I think is just making me a better actor because I get to see how brilliant they are at comedy. It’s amazing! I am taking in a lot of comedic skills back with me.

Q) Has comedic timing always been a natural ability for you?

A) When we are at the table read reading the scripts, it will be so funny that you just kind of have to over read it and find the comedic beats to it. Just watching Wendi, George and Jeff I like to watch them take back the lines and it’s funny to see what they really put into it. So, I think comedic beats have to come natural to you and I think being on the show is improving my comedic beats.

Q) You are a part of social media. Do you enjoy the instant fan feedback you have been receiving after episodes air?

A) I love the fan feedback! We have so many great fans that whenever we are live tweeting an episode I love to see how the viewers react to it. All the fans are so great and so happy with the episodes, which is the best. We just had an episode about New Kids On The Block where Adam and Barry (Troy Gentile) learned all the dances. That was a great episode and all the viewers really seemed to like it. So, it was fun to hear their feedback.

Q) What would you like to say to fans of the show?

A) Keep watching the show! We have a lot of great episodes coming up. I want to thank all the viewers and fans of the show for watching.
