Nate Haden – Desire

Q.  What are some of the recent projects that you’ve been working on?

A.  Well, we wrapped the “Desire” shoot in early July and then I immediately began traveling for the promotion of the show. We’ve covered 30 cities all over the U.S. since then and now the show has finally started! The past two weeks I’ve also been test-shooting on a film being shot in Malibu, CA. Other then that, I’m just preparing for my biggest project of all; my first child is due in early November!

Q.  What can you tell us about the premise for “Desire” and about your character?

A.  “Desire” surrounds the story of two brothers (both very different personalities) and the love they share for the same beautiful woman, Andrea Zavatti. Two brothers competing for the attention of a woman, a checkered past for one brother, and some mob thugs; it’s a recipe for chaos! My character, Louis, has well, many character flaws. He’s morally and ethically challenged. He has a limitless appetite for beautiful women. Louis also tries very hard to make sure he appears “perfect,” knowing full well it’s just for show.

Q.  What made you want to be a part of the show?

A.  “Desire” was an opportunity for me to explore a character, Louis, who posed a lot of challenges for an actor. The audience will have to see, but he’s not always what he appears to be. I was also excited about the idea of being the 1st show, the first night of a new Network started by Fox/Twentieth Television. I’m proud to say the “My Network” will always be My 1st Network to give me an opportunity to do what I love.

Q.  Do you have a really memorable moment from working on the show?

A.  I remember a scene where my brother, mother, and I had to escape our apartment because the mafia was on our heels. The building behind us was suppose to explode and we would fall on a safety pad. Well, the explosion was a little late and we overshot the pad. The adrenaline was pumping and we hardly noticed our cuts and bruises from the bare concrete!

Q.  Why should viewers take the time to tune in?

A.  Our show is fun, sexy, explosive, and unpredictable. No repeats, every night (except Sunday), for thirteen weeks! What other prime time program offers you that? Plus, no character is safe from being, well, killed! It’s been called beautiful people with problems. We try to entertain and give the audience an escape. We want to be your after dinner dessert!

Q.  What is it about the role that has been challenging for you?

A.  Louis tries so hard to impress women, out-achieve his brother, and keep his insecurities hidden. I found out early on that my challenges would be great with Louis’ ambitious attitude. My real wife, Toni, was very understanding of the role and what it would require of me with my female co-stars. Louis tends to sleep with the ladies first, and then maybe he would buy them a drink. Personally, that’s not my style but, hey, whatever floats your boat. Also, later in the show the audience will see that my character is faced with some life altering decisions. It was difficult to explore such a dark area of this character but I enjoyed the challenge. I just hope the audience see it too.

Q.  The show has gotten mixed reviews from critics. Do you think that viewers can look beyond reviews and judge the show for themselves?

A.  I think audiences, especially American audiences, have always made up their own minds. If history shows us anything in television and film, some of the most criticized or questioned project have turned out to be crazy hits with the public. Aaron Spelling made a great career out of creating much criticized “campy” dramas in the 80’s and 90’s. We would love to have even an ounce of that much success.

Q.  What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

A.  Right now, most of my spare time is devoted to the preparation for my daughter’s arrival in early November. It’s our first child and we’re trying to have everything in order the best we can. Otherwise, I really enjoy exercising with my wife, traveling, getting some golf in when possible, and of course reading scripts for future projects. Right now I’m working on an Indie film trying to get studio funding so we can afford a bigger crew and up the production value.

Q.  Do you have a latest obsession? Are you into any particular book, music group, sport or activity?

A.  My obsession lately has been baby stuff! It’s amazing how many products are out there for these little people. My wife and I have registered and it’s basically everything we have as adults, only miniature. The outfits, shoes, toys, pumps, creams, wipes, Boppy pillow (new parents will know what that is), etc. We just can’t wait to meet her and introduce everyone to our little creation. Oh, and she can watch Daddy on “Desire” when she turns sixteen. Otherwise, my sports obsession is golf & college football (Nebraska), my music obsession is Keane & 311, and my book of choice is “Great Expectations” the pregnancy guidebook.
