Night Court – The Judge’s Boyfriend’s Dad, Part 2

Abby (Melissa Rauch) is telling Jake (Ryan Hansen) and Dan (John Larroquette) they might be father and son. They both rub their temples, with Abby noticing they stress alike.

Gurgs (Lacretta) comes in and offers to read the results. Dan then points out that he has vasectomy in 1987 and jokes about the situation. Jake says he made his first maybe dad joke.

Gurgs says that Dan and Abby aren’t related, confessing that she thought Jake was her brother. Gurgs goes to get the real results and makes snarky comments about the situation.

Later on, Abby and Dan discuss the situation as Wyatt (Nyambi Nyambi) talks about becoming a dad. Dan says that his talk was useless while Abby agrees Wyatt wasn’t very helpful.

Gurgs comes in and talks to Julianne (Wendie Malick) about smoking on the fire escape. She tries to deny it, then promises to stop, which they both know is a lie.

The first case is about a woman (Jen Dorhan) who is on trial over a pregnancy test being stolen. She is upset about it, causing Dan to freak out. Abby lets her off with a warning, saying that in nine months she may be doing hard labor.

Dan continues to freak out when Jake comes in with a box. He wants them to go through it together, but Abby tries to stop them by saying it’s hers. Jake continues to try and bond with Dan over the box, which Dan finally takes away, still thinking it belongs to Abby.

Abby shows Wyatt a questions game to help break the ice between Dan and Jake. Wyatt doesn’t think this is a good idea, so he suggests finding a different project where they don’t need eye contact, such as putting a car together.

Gurgs comes in and Abby asks her about binding with her own dad. She says they were a singing group. As they prepare for court, Gurgs catches Julianne smoking again and threatens to make her eat the cigarette like a hot dog. Julianne pulls out a long cigarette and tells her to get comfortable.

Abby finally gets Dan and Jake into the same room by having them work on fixing Dan’s chair, but not before Wyatt and Gurgs continue to offer their feelings on the situation. As they work together, Wyatt thinks it’s a good idea. Abby then gives them the tools they need to get to work.

As they finish, Abby brings them paninis, happy they are hitting it off. She and Danny talk about going to a book club (where they make fun of people in the cafeteria), which Jake thinks sounds fun. Dan asks him to join, causing Abby to freak out and Wyatt to accuse her of being jealous.

Abby is in the cafeteria when Dan and Jake walk in after tie shopping. She is upset about this, but they start making fun of the book club people (Yellow Glasses, Big Cup and Hat Guy)….until Dan and Jake change the subject to their shopping trip. Abby tries to insert herself into the conversation, but ends up embarrassing herself.

Gurgs catches Julianne smoking again and brings in Wyatt to talk to her. He tells a random story about doing the right thing, but she turns the tables and pegs him as a former smoker. He admits he did smoke when he spent a summer in Montreal. He joins her, foiling Gurgs’s plans.

Dan and Jake continue to bond and talk about plans to go to a Yankee game for bobblehead night. Abby is jealous and talks to Dan about it when Jake steps away to take a call. She tells Dan some of Dan’s annoying and embarrassing habits, but Dan finds them endearing. She gets frustrated and goes to talk to the book club people.

 As she asks them an ice breaker question, Jake comes in to say the DNA results are in. In a twist of fate, the book club had predicted this and that  ‘Surfs Up Guy’ and ‘Angry Beard Guy’ were father and son.

Dan is not Jake’s father, but they are okay with it despite being disappointed. Dan promises to be there for him and Jake says he hopes his real dad is like Dan.

Abby asks Jakes if he is okay and he says he can pretend Tom Selleck is his dad. She says now they don’t have to worry about his dad walking in on them. Julianne steps out from the fire escape and makes fun of them, saying Dan would have only seen them holding hands.

They see Wyatt with her and he says he is time traveling to Montreal. Julianne then admits she is not smoking but eavesdropping to get an advantage in court. As she comes in, Gurgs says she was planning revenge on them by putting bird seed on the floor above them. She then locks Wyatt out, causing him to freak out.

The episode ends with Dan and Abby bonding at the Yankees game…with her getting hit in the face with a ball and him promising ice cream…as they get caught on the jumbotron camera.
