Q) Congratulations on getting a Season 8! The show was cancelled twice only to be brought back for two more seasons. What did it mean to have such an outpouring of fan support that you were able to make that happen?
A) Thank you! It really means the world to all of us. Having the show canceled twice and then being able to come back for two more seasons is a testament to the incredible support we’ve received from our fans. It’s humbling to know that people cared so deeply about the show that they rallied behind it, voiced their love for it and made it clear just how much they wanted to see more. We wouldn’t be here without them. The outpouring of support was overwhelming, and it truly inspired everyone involved with the show to keep pushing forward, to continue telling the stories we’re so passionate about. It’s a reminder of the power of a loyal fan base, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make this possible
Q) Where do we pick up with the team when the season begins?
A) This season we’re excited to introduce a new cast member, and the dynamic between the newcomers and the original crew is electrifying. The chemistry is undeniable and it really shows as we dive into some intense and unpredictable storylines. Watching us work together to crack these cases is going to be a thrilling experience for the audience.
Q) There is no “I” in SWAT Team, but what is new with Alfaro?
A) This season we really get to explore Alfaro on a deeper level. We dive into his personal life, his heritage, his roots, and some of his family background. There’s also a more romantic side to Alfaro that we get to see, which adds a fun and engaging layer to his character. For me, this is where you truly begin to understand who Alfaro is.
Q) New star Annie Ilonzeh joins the team as Devin Gamble. How does Gamble help or hinder your already established bond as a team?
A) Annie Ilonzeh as Devin Gamble has been a fantastic addition to the team. Gamble brings a fresh perspective and a new set of skills that really complement our dynamic. While it’s always a challenge to integrate a new member into an established group, her character fits right in—sometimes challenging us in ways that make us better, but also helping to strengthen our bond as a team. At first, there’s definitely an adjustment period, but what I love about Gamble is how she pushes us to think differently and step up in ways we might not have before. It adds a new layer to our teamwork and makes our group even stronger. It’s been really exciting to see how her presence elevates the team.
Q) Each season amps up the drama for the team – as you’re constantly risking your lives. What are some episodes of Season 8 you’d suggest fans keeping an eye out for?
A) Each season really amps up the drama, especially when the team is constantly risking their lives. Right now, we’re halfway through Season 8, so we don’t have too much information on the storylines to come. But I will say that Episode 12 is definitely one to keep an eye out for. It’s an exciting one. Without giving too much away, you’ll get to see Alfaro go undercover with people who once considered him “one of them.” It gets wild and dives deep into the many sides of my character. There’s a lot of action—shooting, explosions, deaths—all the intense moments the viewers love. Trust me, it’s going to be a thrilling ride!
Q) With such intensity and adrenaline filled scenes, how do you shake off a long day of being on set?
A) After a long day of intense, adrenaline-fueled scenes, it’s important to unwind and reset. For me, it’s all about finding balance. I like to decompress by doing something completely different from what I’ve been filming. Whether it’s hitting the gym to burn off that residual energy or simply taking a walk outside, being in nature helps clear my mind. I also enjoy spending time with friends and family—connecting with loved ones, especially my wife, really helps me ground myself. It’s all about giving myself that mental and physical reset before gearing up for the next day on set!
Q) What do you think it is about “S.W.A.T.” that just continues to make it such a fan favorite show?
A) I think what keeps “S.W.A.T.” such a fan favorite is its perfect mix of high-stakes action, real-world stakes and relatable, complex characters. The show doesn’t just focus on the adrenaline-pumping moments; it dives deep into the personal lives and struggles of the team. We see the characters evolve, face tough decisions and deal with challenges that resonate with viewers, whether it’s loyalty, family or moral dilemmas. Fans really connect with the human side of the show, not just the action.
Plus, there’s something about the teamwork, the camaraderie and the way the team has each other’s backs no matter what. The action is intense, sure, but it’s the emotional depth and the bonds between the characters that make it stick with people long after the credits roll.
Q) If this is the final season of “S.W.A.T.,” where would you like to leave Alfaro at the end?
A) If this turns out to be the final season of S.W.A.T., I’d want Alfaro’s journey to culminate in significant growth and a sense of resolution that reflects the core themes of the show—redemption, loyalty, and justice. Throughout the series Alfaro has faced numerous challenges, both as a key member of the team and on a personal level. He’s had his ups and downs, struggling with the weight of his past and trying to find his place within the squad. It would be powerful to see him evolve into a more grounded, self-assured character by the end, having learned from his mistakes and grown through the trials he’s faced.
Ideally, this progression would highlight his transformation, where he not only reconciles with his own demons but also solidifies his role within the team as someone who can lead, mentor and inspire others. It would be rewarding to see him take on a more prominent leadership position, guiding newer officers or stepping up in critical moments—showing that he’s truly embraced the values of the job and the camaraderie of the team.
Q) What have you personally taken away as an actor from your time working on this show?
A) Working on this show has taught me the power of collaboration and how vital it is to trust the creative team and fellow actors. I’ve learned to embrace vulnerability, letting my emotions drive the performance instead of just “acting.” It’s also shown me the importance of patience—sometimes the best moments come through trial and error. Ultimately, this experience has deepened my appreciation for the craft and reminded me how rewarding it is to connect with an audience on a genuine level.
Q) You’ve been a part of a number of iconic teen series from Bunheads to Awkward to Daytime Divas. Which shows still hold a special place in your heart?
A) Each of those shows holds a special place in my heart for different reasons because they represent different chapters of my life. From the young, more naive Niko in Bunheads to growing a bit older and navigating new phases of life in Awkward and Daytime Divas, each series taught me something unique.
Each set felt like a reflection of where I was in my own life at that time and I was able to grow with my characters in ways I’ll always cherish. It’s not just about the work, but the personal growth that came with each experience—learning from my castmates, the stories we were telling and the different challenges we faced along the way. So, really, they all hold a unique, sentimental value to me because they mark the evolution of my career and my life.
Q) What are the other projects that you have been busy working on lately?
My time has been pretty limited lately, since I’m a series regular on the show and it takes about nine months to complete a season. However, during the strike my wife and I launched a pilates grip sock brand called Souls., and it’s been a wild, rewarding ride! It’s been incredibly successful and I’ve been involved as much as I can, helping with everything from design to business operations.
On top of that, I recently opened two barbershops—one in Pasadena and the other in Sherman Oaks, called Buzzed Barbers. As much as I love acting, I’ve always had an entrepreneurial side and these ventures have been a great way to explore that. Balancing these projects alongside my acting career keeps me busy, but I love the variety and the challenge. It’s exciting to see how all of these different passions are coming to life!
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of you and the work you do?
A) I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who’s been a fan and supporter of me and the work I do. Truly, there wouldn’t be a “me” without you. Your support means everything—not just as an actor, but as a person. Whether you’ve been following my journey for years or just recently discovered my work, I’m so grateful for each and every one of you. You inspire me to keep pushing myself, to keep taking on new challenges and to keep creating. So, thank you from the bottom of my heart for being part of this incredible ride. It wouldn’t be the same without you!
