NOA – Hurting

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) A mix of Chill Pop/R&B with acoustic elements.

 

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

 

A) Alicia Keys, Elton John, James Taylor, Dua Lipa, Justin Bieber and John Mayer

 

Q) Toronto has become such a popular place for up-and-coming musicians. What makes this area such a great hub for musical talent?

 

A) Totally – something’s definitely in the water! I think it’s people’s willingness to collaborate and support each other which makes Toronto such a special creative community.

 

Q) Talk about the story behind your song “Spaces.”

 

A) I wrote “Spaces” about trying to move on from a breakup but having a hard time filling in the “spaces” this person left behind. Often there’s a lot of ego in breakups and sometimes it’s hard to be vulnerable and just tell someone you’re actually not doing so great and that you do still miss them. That’s sort of the headspace I was in when I wrote that one.

 

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

 

A) I always write from personal experience, so maybe it’s just the honestly and vulnerability. I try to just say things as they are and share how I’m feeling. I write to give others a voice through my music and hope that people can connect and feel a little less alone through whatever it is they’re going through.

 

Q) What is your songwriting process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

 

A) It’s honestly super different every time. Sometimes it’s a chord progression, a cool lyric or just an overall vibe. Usually, it depends on the headspace I’m in!

 

Q) How involved are you in the production of your music?

 

A) I’m very involved! I have pretty clear visions for my songs and love collaborating with my producers to execute our idea!

 

Q) What are some themes fans can expect from your EP Hurting?

 

A) Hurting, anger, sadness, confusion and reflection…

 

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

 

A) Daniel Caesar!!

 

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them? 

 

A) Been loving JP Saxe, Harry Styles and Masego.
