AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL, airs Wednesdays at 8 PM ET/PT on UPN
Q) Who is your favorite designer?
A) I don’t really have one. I just kind of wear normal clothes, lots of plain t-shirts and Old Navy jeans. I like Betsy Johnson. I’ve seen her clothes on TV, when I actually get to watch. She’s funky and her clothes look really rock star and she does cartwheels on the runway. That’s awesome!
Q) Why did you decide to apply for the show?
A) I didn’t! My mom knew about a contest in Reno that was for “Reno’s Next Top Model.” My mom signed me up and I went and won. It just kind of snowballed. It was kind of a fluke, like a random thing that happened!
Q) Did you have to audition for the show?
A) No, one of the benefits from “Reno’s Next Top Model” is that I got to be flown to one of the auditions and go behind the ropes first to get to speak with one of the producers. So, I didn’t have to send in a tape like other people.
Q) What was it like meeting Tyra Banks?
A) She’s amazing! It was kind of surreal because it is someone you’ve looked up to for so long, someone you’ve seen all over magazines and on Victoria Secret’s runway. Then you look and there she is! You’re like, “Wow, is this really happening?”
Q) What did you learn most about modeling from the show?
A) I loved the makeup. I think the makeup was just amazing! All the different things that they could do with my face just by using different colors was great. I like playing dress up. I’m a typical girl; we like being able to dress up in cool clothes and take pictures.
Q) What did you like most about living in the loft?
A) I had gotten really close to some of the girls. I had a baby young, got my own apartment and started working so I never really got that roommate atmosphere. Being in the loft, I got to hang out with girls all day and do hair and nails. It was almost like I got that part of myself again.
Q) Who do you plan on keeping in touch with from the show?
A) I’m definitely going to keep in touch with Sarah, Rebecca, Brita, Tatiana and Tiffany. I want to keep in touch with everyone, but I think those are the girls I got the closest to.
Q) What was it like doing an ad for the “Milk” campaign?
A) Well, it’s not real milk. When do the “Got Milk?” ad it’s very weird because it is very heavy on your lip. When you are trying to juggle all the different facets of the shoot, it was a little odd, but fun. It was kind of odd becoming a different ethnicity.
Q) How hard was it to be away from your son while filming?
A) It was extremely hard and difficult. I love my son and I am very attached to him. If I had any doubt in my mind, that maybe it wasn’t the right time, that definitely sealed the deal.
Q) Did you find any consolation in the words Tyra gave you in your one-on-one?
A) It was comforting! It’s nice to know that the industry I’m going to be in is understanding. We aren’t all eighteen with no children. It’s really nice that they accommodate the people that have children. Just because that happens, you still get to have your dreams and go out there and do what you want!
Q) Do you feel bad having spread the false rumor about Michelle having flesh-eating bacteria?
A) I called my mom and said, “Michelle has this thing on her face.” She had heard about something on the news. The other mom’s, Rebecca’s mom and Tatiana’s mom, had heard about this too. So, yeah, I did tell everyone. It wasn’t a rumor. My mom said this and I believed it. I may have jumped to conclusions and judged before I found out all the details. I think anyone would have in that situation.
Q) What was your favorite competition and why?
A) My favorite competition, even though I totally reeked at it, would have had to be the “Natural Face” one. It was fun to just learn about it and be able to play with free CoverGirl makeup.
Q) Do you have advice for contestants who try out in the future?
A) Don’t change because you think that is what they expect. A lot of girls think they have to live up to the ideal of what they are looking for, and that’s not the case at all! I have crooked teeth, knobby knees, I’m loud, I’m obnoxious and I burp like a guy! I didn’t think they would want me and they did. I was true to myself. So, be yourself, it is ok. Don’t try to change too much for the industry.
Q) Who do you think is going to win the competition?
A) The person that I would want to win is Kahlen. Only because I think that she is so unaware of how absolutely gorgeous she is in pictures and in person. She’s just very humble and she doesn’t know that. I think that’s what is going to make a really good Next Top Model, someone who isn’t necessarily aware of their beauty, but can rock the camera the way she does!
Q) What are you going to do now that you are no longer on the program?
A) Get right back started! I’m not going to take a break from this. I’m ready for it to happen! I’m ready to make it big and to make my dreams to come true! I’m just going to get it started again and start getting jobs. I hope that it gets huge from there!
Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters of you and the show?
A) Everyone has been so awesome and they’ve been so accepting of me. So, just thank you for listening to who I was and what I stood for. Thank you for watching and making fun of me along with everyone else. I really appreciate everyone being so nice!
