Noelle Toland – LIMBO
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) You have ventured out with a new sound for this new release “LIMBO.” What made you decide to switch things up?
A) When I started to put together the songs that would be on my debut EP, I knew I wanted to include a fun one that people could relate to and sing along with. To me, “LIMBO” is a statement for people to take back their power, if they feel they’ve lost it somehow or if they’re stuck in some in-between state that they feel they can’t get out of. No-one likes being in limbo, but I sure hope they like this song.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Reba [McEntire]
Q) I love your powerful new song “LIMBO.” Talk about the story behind it.
A) Thank you so much! The verses came first to me with “LIMBO” and it started with a story about a girl who is stuck in a relationship that seems like it’s not going anywhere and she’s really frustrated. I had a few working titles pinned down while I was ironing out the story line ,but the word LIMBO came late in the game and I remember being so excited that it rhymed with the word JOE that I used as the guy the girl was talking to.
Q) You teamed with Chris Condon to write it. How did the two of you connect?
A) My friend Erik Himel from L.A. connected us when I reached out to him asking for producers he could recommend in Nashville.
Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) I think everyone hates being stuck in limbo so I believe listeners can resonate with the sentiment of walking away from whatever situation isn’t serving them.
Q) Fans are curious, will there be a video for “LIMBO” coming soon?
A) YES! We shot the video on the day of the release, and I cannot wait to release it! It’s got a fun, flirtatious and wild vibe that might be a departure from the past videos I’ve released. Keep checking my socials for it!
Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) I approach songwriting in various ways, but I typically come up with the title or hook first and then figure out the story.
Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) A great deal. I’m independent still so I oversee everything.
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) I love performing so much! So far, I’ve really loved playing at The Cambria’s True Music Room and the Commodore Grille here in Nashville but my favorite place I’ve ever played was The Viper Room because it’s so iconic.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) Luke Combs! Dream collab right there.
Q) We’ve loved seeing you on our screens in the past. Are there any upcoming TV or film projects you have in the works?
A) I just wrapped an independent film project late last year and am also currently developing my own script. Stay tuned!
Q) Why is social media such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) Social Media allows me to personally connect with fans and it’s such a great way to hear feedback from people who enjoy my music. What means the most to me is when people have reached out and expressed how my songs have helped them get through dark times.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT! I create music because I love it and because my soul needs it, but it wouldn’t mean anything if people didn’t listen, so I appreciate each and every one of you.
