Q) How would you best describe your sound?

Luke: I always find this question tough. Jake and I pride ourselves on writing an eclectic catalogue, trying to push ourselves not to cover the same territory. In some of our recent releases such as “Get on It” and our cover of “Fight for Your Right,” we’ve gone down the “party rock” path. A good friend of ours has described us before as “sex rock” due to songs like “My Kind of Girl.” But then we also have a huge alternative streak to us shown in songs like “Happened Again” and “Nicotine.” We try to just write stuff that sounds cool and makes us feel a type of way, without worrying too much about its genre. We figure if we like it, someone else will too.

Q) Who are your Top 3 musical influences?

Luke: Metallica, Alice in Chains, Audioslave

Jake: Alice In Chains, Michael Jackson, Faith No More.

Q) Tell us the story behind your latest single “Let’s Go.”

Luke: I’ve always been fascinated by classical music and especially the role of the conductor. His/her job is essentially to direct time for the orchestra. With a wave of one hand the strings section starts, just as a wave of the other causes the horns to stop. It occurred to me; why not use this in rock music?

This was the inspiration for the “STOP/GO” element of the song (which really was the song’s foundation) – to use Jake as the conductor orchestrating the instruments during a live performance to start and stop at his bidding.

From there we wrote the riff, and the song took on its own life as just a fun, driving rock song. “Let’s GO” just felt like the perfect sentiment to capture the energy of the riff, and it seamlessly incorporated the conducting element. Everything fell into place.

Q) Since its release, what has been the reaction to “Let’s Go” from fans and listeners?

Luke: I’m proud to say that “Let’s Go” has been our most successful release to date. Not only has it been one of our fastest growing songs on Spotify and YouTube, but it’s also garnered the most support and exposure from press and media sources we’ve ever had. In fact, the video made it on a nationally syndicated rock and metal TV show.

Q) You also recently released a music video for “Let’s Go.” How did you come up with the concept for it?

Jake: Luke had the idea of us driving around in the ‘Metallicar” with a 360 camera inside while we rock out Wayne’s World style. But then as I started storyboarding it to the song, it took on all these crazy stunts that we knew we probably shouldn’t do in the streets of Long Beach…

Q) What message do you hope fans take away from “Let’s Go?”

Luke: That life is short, grab it by the horns. Don’t be idle, don’t sit still, make things happen – be constantly present. You never know when it’s gonna end. So “Let’s GO.”

Q) Is there a full-length album in the works?

Luke: We plan on releasing our follow-up single and video “California Demon” in late February/Early March. It’s quite a change from our usual sound, summoning some heavy influence from Marilyn Manson and the darker parts of the Alice in Chains catalogue. After that we are looking forward to releasing a four to five song EP, probably in April or May. As for a full-length, that’s undetermined – it will be sometime in the future.

Q) You have had the chance to go on tour with bands such as Wolfmother, Blue Oyster Cult and Candlebox. What would you consider as one of your favorite shows to date?

Luke: It’s so hard to pick a favorite. I think our show at the San Diego Observatory with Wolfmorther has undoubtedly got to be one of my fondest, not only because of playing with WM obviously, but also because it’s my favorite venue we’ve ever been to, let alone play. The sound was incredible, and the building had just recently been refurbished. It was a glorious experience!

Q) Which song(s) is your favorite to play live and why?

Luke: My personal favorite is almost always “The Devil You Know” because I get to finish the song with a three-minute guitar solo. [laughs] But with that said, it’s pretty hard to top the crowd participation we get from “Let’s Get Fucked Up.” It always guarantees an unadulterated moment of “presentness” with the crowd, one in which we all raise our drinks and mutually acknowledge that tonight we’re gonna have a great time together, despite having to get back to normal life tomorrow. It’s an addicting feeling.

Q) Who would you love to collaborate with on a song in the future?

Luke: I’d love to get the chance to work with Josh Homme or Trent Reznor. I think both have got extremely good ears and could apply their musical style to just about anything with success. Lindsay Buckingham would be another person I’d relish the opportunity to work with.  We’re actually hoping to do a collaboration with one of our idols (who is now a friend) who we’ve had the pleasure of touring with recently. We’ll keep that hush-hush for now but look forward to announcing it soon.  😉

Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters of your music?

Jake: Rest up while you can. The party machine is about to fire back up for 2023!
