Orange is the New Black – Litchfield’s Got Talent
By: Gladys Luna
Caputo (Nick Sandow) spots Linda (Beth Dover) on the other side of the window and freezes. When he sees that she is the one who will deliver the food for them, he asks the others to abort the mission breaking their plans just like that. Linda, Big Boo (Lea DeLaria) and Maria (Jessica Pimentel) enter the room and give them the food; when they leave, everyone turns to Caputo and yells at him for not letting them go according to their plan.
Later that day, the inmates have gathered again while watching the CO´s interact at the other side of the glass. Angie (Julie Lake) and Leanne (Emma Myles) are still on “prank mode” and have decided to pull Gloria´s (Selenis Leyva) pants down, but she refuses and struggles against the other two girls. While doing it, she drops the gun that was supposedly missing. All the inmates throw themselves at the gun, but is Angie who finally manages to get it and in order to try to stop the other girls from snatching the gun from her she shoots to the ceiling. She then makes everyone freeze right on their spot. Now, Angie calls herself “the jefe.”
On the other hand, Anita (Lin Tucci), Yoga Jones (Constance Shulman), Sankey (Kelly Karbacz), Van Maele (Francesca Curran) and Epps (Asia Kate Dillon) have managed to stop Judy (Blair Brown) from running away. They are trying to make her confess where her “panic room” is, but she tells them that if there was any she would be in there already. However, the inmates tie a plank to her back in case she decides to run away again that it would only slow her down. She ends up confessing them that there is a food delivery that was supposed to be sent later that night, something that makes the girls scream out of excitement.
Piper (Taylor Schilling) and Alex (Laura Prepon) are somewhere outside watching Linda and Caputo´s pictures on the woman´s phone. Alex gets tired of it so she decides to play pretend she would buy an apartment in New York and tries to make Piper play along with her. Piper is still concerned about what may happen to Alex if she confesses that she killed a CO. The brunette, annoyed of Piper´s concerns, hits back with a reply about the blonde´s mother making her change the topic and play along with Alex.
Back in time, we get to experience a bit of Alison´s (Amanda Stephen) backstory when she is at a diner with her husband and they are happily discussing about their daughter and women empowerment.
Suzanne (Uzo Aduba), Soso (Kimiko Glenn) and Maureen (Emily Althaus) are sleeping on the kitchen floor when they hear some noises coming from the ceiling. Suzanne gets up immediately and tells the other girls what she believes the noise means: a) a mischievous rat b) air vibrating through wind turbines or c) Poussey’s (Samira Wiley) spirit. Afterwards, they engage in a conversation about the difference between spirits and ghosts and when Soso shivers out of the blue, Suzanne assures her that it could be another reason to believe that her girlfriend´s spirit is still around.
Flores (Laura Gómez) and Red (Kate Mulgrew) are still trying to find Piscatella´ s (Brad William Henke) file. Finally, she sees a box they didn’t know it was there and it turns out that is the one holding Piscatella´s files. In the meantime, Anita and the gang are leading Judy through a dark Alley in order for her to take them where the food will be delivered. The woman falls to the ground and suddenly has her face al covered in ketchup. The other girls help her to stand up and keep moving. Sankey is surfing through Instagram when she finds that her boyfriend has been posting some pictures with another woman. The girl is Sankey´s friend from home that she made a deal with to keep her boyfriend entertained while she was in prison, but they seem to have moved further than expected.
Back to Angie and Leanne, they are trying to find a way to use the power they have now. They decide to put up a show in which the CO´s will be the participants. This makes the girls cheer out of excitement before the news.
Another flashback into Alison´s life before the prison takes us to a moment where she was at the bowling to celebrate her little girl´s birthday party. Everything seemed to be pretty fine back then. Back to the present, Suzanne, Maureen and Soso are drawing a pentagram in order to summon Poussey’s spirit. Cindy, Taystee and Watson enter the kitchen. They join the circle and together they start some kind of chanting, which helps the girls to achieve their task. In the meantime, Sophia (Laverene Cox) has decided to leave the infirmary and join the other inmates outside. Daya (Dascha Polanco) does the same and along with Alex and other girls decide to enjoy the calmness of the night in addition with some music that Alex provides. Gloria calls her family for the fifth time, but there´s still no response. Angie and Leann are looking for judges for the talent competition and ask Maria and Linda to be part of it as the CO´s are discussing which talents they have that they can present once they are at the contest.
Governor Hutchinson (Bill Sage) is updated on the situation at Litchfield, but he has been sedated so he doesn’t seem to be paying enough attention to what is happening in there. Alison gets mad when she realizes that Sahar (Malika Samuel) has taken her daughter Farah (Layla Bunch) to pierce her ears, but Hassan (W. Tré Davis) tries to calm her down and brings her to her senses. Sophia manages to walk out of the prison and wakes a police officer that is sleeping on the car hood. He assures her he would take her to max where he has been taking the other inmates that have attempted to leave the prison and Sophia accepts it without making any fuss. Red and Blanca are getting delusional while looking for something sneaky on Piscatella. Suddenly, Flores finds a file that describes how an inmate was murdered by him and Piscatella was transferred to Litchfield. Meanwhile, Suzanne and the group are still trying to make contact with Poussey and each one of them begin to welcome her spirit. Suzanne starts to pass a message from Poussey, which causes a discussion between Soso and Taystee making the latter to snap and walks away from the room.
In the other side of the prison, the inmates have gathered and are ready for the talent show starred by the CO´s. Each one of the officers start to present their talents and when Caputo attempts to make a civilized conversation and convince them to stop the riot, Angie shoots the ceiling as a response. When they go on a break, Piper enters the room and asks Linda for a minute to talk to her and tells her she shouldn’t say anything about the conversation she and Alex had in the bathroom in regards Alex killing a man. Linda doesn’t seem to be scared anymore and doesn’t care at all for Piper´s request.
Outside the prison, when Alex is pointed as the one in charge for the people gathered in there, she refuses to take the lead and informs them that the only thing she wants to do is to serve her time. This makes each one of the other inmates say the same.
Back to Alison’s past, she arrives to a diner where she sees Hassan with his other wife and her daughter been taken a picture. The one that she is seeing now as she cries. Sankey comes out crying when she sees that her boyfriend has moving on happily with his life. For a moment, it seems as though they could share the moment they are going through but they end up insulting each other again.
Once at max, Sophia asks to another woman about the nun and the woman confesses that she saw her been released under the statement of “Compassionate Release” since she caught pneumonia. Sophia’s simple response is laughing out loud at the news.
The inmates announce the winner of the talent show and it turns out to be Josh (John Palladino) who, as a prize, gets to decide who the loser is so they can punish them. Josh chooses Caputo who ends locked up in the porto-potty called “the poo.”
Judy and the other inmates get to the roof in order to receive the delivery that the woman promised them. Anita doesn’t believe a word about so she retreats from the mission. Brandy and Van Maele get mad when they think they have been scammed and when they are about to throw Judy from the roof, a helicopter shows up taking pictures of the woman carrying a plank.
There goes another utterly entertaining episode. ¡Hast la próxima!
