Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I would say my music is very lyrical mixed with a lot of melodies.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) I grew up listening to oldies and soul such as The Four Tops, The Jackson Five, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations and Stevie Wonder. In my teen years I started listening to Hip-Hop and a lot of my influences were the rappers who laid down the foundation for artists today such as Nas, Jay Z, Eminem, Tupac [Shakur], Biggie, Big Pun, 50 cent, the Lox, G-unit and a lot of 90s-2000s rappers.

Q) How did your training as a boxer help provide you the perseverance you’d need for stepping into the music industry?

A) Boxing in itself is a character shaping sport. It builds confidence, humility, discipline, consistency and strength that you can apply to many areas of your life including music. I think coming into the music industry, these are qualities that will be very useful for me as I continue to grow as an artist.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Ain’t That the Truth.”

A) “Ain’t That the Trut:h is one of my favorite songs. It’s a song about my process and the path leading up to where I’m as an artist and as a person going through life. It’s a song about finding conviction in who you are when going through tough and challenging times.

Q) What makes this track the perfect follow up to your hit song “War?”

A) I think “War” is a great introduction to who I am and what I’m capable of as an artist as far as songwriting and composition. “War” is a very personal song to me because it’s about some of the challenges I’ve faced as a kid growing up. Everyone is at war with themselves in one way or another and, for me, “War” was a way for me to express some of the challenges when trying to become a better version of myself.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I feel like people connected to the confidence and the content delivered in the lyrics.

Q) How will the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) I think the video will bring the song to life and put a face to the voice behind the record.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I have a few different ways I write. I can write without music but lately I’ve been focused on songwriting. I’m very selective with the instrumental I write to. I catch a melody and look to complete the chorus with a theme. Then I write the verses and add a bridge.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I have a producer that I use for most of my records as well as my engineer who has made some of my beats. I focus more on song writing, but when we make a beat in the studio, I add things here and there but for the most part it’s my engineer who is doing most of the work.

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

A) Yes, I’ve been working diligently on my catalog and I’m going to release an album in 2023.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I enjoy performing locally because it’s easier for my friends and family to come out.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I would like to collaborate with Kendrick, Eminem, Drake or JCole. It’s a hard pick for me.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

I’m listening to Kendrick [Lamar]’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. I dig this album because it’s timeless, quality music. Kendrick Lamar always delivers, and he is a genuine artist which is hard to come by in today’s music.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Funny question. Social media has taken a drastic turn with their harsh algorithms and a lot of these platforms (Instagram specifically) is no longer a tool for artists to grow. At one point it was a vital way to connect with fans and now it’s just a cash grab for Mark [Zuckerberg] and his corporate thieves to steal hard working people’s money with their “boost feature” while sabotaging users’ engagement at the same time.

Q) I’d be remiss if I didn’t ask, which boxers do you always keep an eye out for when it comes to catching a match?

A) Man, so many to name but Canelo [Álvarez], [Vasiliy] Lomachenko, [Dmitry] Bivol, [Terence] Crawford, [Keith] Thurman, Tank, [Deontay] Wilder, [Errol] Spence, etc. I’m always looking to watch the top fighters in each division.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you so much for supporting. A big part of what I’m doing depends on people like you and I appreciate each and every one of you. Stay tuned because I have a lot of music dropping soon and I’ll be fighting in the Golden Gloves (Ring Masters Tournament) in 2023.
