Paulina Madrazo – Mexican Dynasties
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How did you get involved in appearing on “Mexican Dynasties?”
A) It was a very exciting journey. For me, as a Mexican, I’m so very proud of my country. I’m very proud of my culture. Being called by Bravo to do this was super exciting because we’re all about family. I think it’s a very important value that everyone can embrace and it’s something very relatable. Being Mexican this time in history, it’s that more important to showcase that we are very different than what people think and feel. It was an absolute go for me and my family to do this.
Q) What do your kids think of being on the show?
A) Well, at first it was a little bit overwhelming to think you are going to have cameras around you all the time. You really couldn’t feel them. Everything was so natural and organic. That’s just us! For us, it was just fun to be sharing all of it with TV. We weren’t even thinking about being on a reality show. We were just being ourselves and enjoying. We were hoping people like it and we’re very happy that it is going that way.
Q) Were there any parts of your life that you deemed off limits?
A) No. Absolutely not. When we decided to do this, we said we would be 100% in and we needed our stories to be told as they are. So, we put completely our hearts out there and our lives – whatever was going on at that time in our lives. If you really want to tell a story you have to tell it as it is. If you’re going to get involved in a project like this you have to have that mentality. If you really want to touch hearts and really want to have people relate to you then you have to be as open as possible for this to happen.
Q) Has being on the show brought all of the families closer?
A) Yes, of course! Of course! With the Besudos, we’ve been friends for many, many years. My mom and dad were friends with Raquel and Leon since before I was even born. And we love them. Raquel [Bessudo], Oscar and I work in the fashion industry in Mexico so we are always together at many parties, events and red carpets. I absolutely love Doris [Bessudo]. She’s amazing. The Allenedes – we’re all really a big family. This has brought us even closer because we’re now experiencing this together and not as three families apart. So, this has been very exciting too.
Q) Have you and Oscar always been close or have you gotten closer as you became adults?
A) We’re as close as you can get. I don’t think how much closer we can be, to tell you the truth. It’s been this way since I was born. We call each other “soulmates.” We literally are and we share lives, loves and our kids. We’re bringing them up together. Yes, of course, different situations in our lives have been bringing us closer and closer throughout the years. Being two single parents together, we never expected that. When I was a kid or a teenager, we didn’t know that Oscar could become a parent because that wasn’t even conceivable at these times. And, of course, when I got married I never expected that I would be divorced and that my kid’s father would be out of the picture. Life has surprised us and situations have brought us together even more closely. Who else could I ask for in life to share all of these tears and all of this laughter than with Oscar? I’m blessed and privileged to live life alongside of him. It’s amazing!
Q) We got to see some of your relationship with your boyfriend. Has he gotten used to your celebrity status?
A) Oh my God! He is totally overwhelmed. He’s an engineer. This is his first contact in his whole life that he’s had with this kind of life. In Mexico, as you well know, I’m very well known when we go out to parties and events. Press is always taking pictures of us. At first it was very overwhelming for him to have all of this press around us. Then, with Bravo and being on a reality show and him being on TV…But he’s a great sport. He loves it. I told him that he’s found his new career. [laughs] Eighteen years later he found a new career and a new love. He’s just loving it and we are having so much fun together. As you can see on last week’s episode, he doesn’t have social media. He didn’t even know what Instagram was before he met me. Now, he loves being in my stories and he is like, “Let’s do this one together!” He’s just having so much fun. It’s something new and exciting for him. We just have fun with it!
Q) We’ve seen you at a sex party, riding motorcycles and in a hot air balloon. Are there any upcoming favorite moments you can tease?
A) You’ll definitely have to wait and see! I can’t spill! You have to wait and see. I can only assure you that there is a lot of fun coming up and a lot of adventures. There are a lot of things that you are going to really love. We had a blast! We just enjoy being together – the three families so much and we had so many amazing things happening together that you have to wait and see. It’s going to be amazing! I don’t want to spill! You have to wait and see.
Q) Do you watch the episodes together at a party or just as a family?
A) Sometimes it is a little bit hard because we’re all traveling in different parts of the world and we’re not all together at the same time in Mexico or somewhere else. I’m in LA right now and last night I was with Fernando and Mari. I’ll be seeing Doris in a little while. Whenever we get together, we do that because we really miss each other. Elan and Jenny [Allende] are going to Mexico City so we’re going to be throwing a little party at Jose’s house to receive them because we haven’t seen them in a long time. We just love being together! And we love to party so it’s a great excuse.
Q) You do host the fashion series “Que Madrazo!” What are some of your current favorite fashion trends?
A) Well, right now I’m obsessed with super, super, super thigh high boots. That’s a trend that’s been going for a few months. I absolutely love it. I’m a very short girl and it’s hard for me to wear these thigh high boots. But I discovered if I wear them with short skirts that’s a great way to balance it so I don’t look even shorter. About fashion, it’s just being comfortable with yourself. It’s something that changes so quickly and so rapidly that you’re starting to get comfortable with a trend and then it suddenly changes. So, what I always like is just being comfortable with myself, being able to be who I am – not pretending to be someone else with clothing or statements that don’t belong to me. It’s just being yourself and having fun.
Q) You’re a part of social media. Do you enjoy the feedback you receive from fans to the episodes?
A) Oh, I’m absolutely loving it! It’s so exciting for me to see that people are really enjoying the show and they are having fun. That’s exactly what we do – have fun and have people join in on the fun makes it that much better. But seeing all this love and people writing and all the feedback, it’s amazing. I take the time to respond to each and every message when I can. Sometimes I can’t do it right away, but I love sitting down and responding to each and every one of them. They take the time to show me what they feel of course I need to take that and do the same. I love the response from the people.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you?
A) Well, I just want to tell everyone to keep watching and enjoying the show. Keep on having fun with us. We hope to be with you guys for many, many more seasons. So, keep on watching to make that happen. I just want to tell everyone to drink tequila, have fun, dance, fall and love because that’s what we are here on this planet for. Even though we all have problems and troubles in our lives, we have to learn to put that aside and put happiness and dreams before that so we can pursue them.
