Pauly Shore – He Lives!

By  |

Q) What are some of your most recent projects?

A) We got the movie website PaulyShoreIsDead.com and we have a reality show that we are going to start filming called “Minding the Store” and it’s about me and my mom and the comedy store. We have The Making of Pauly Shore is Dead the movie and a stand up DVD.

Q) How did you come up with the concept for the film Pauly Shore is Dead?

A) It’s based on truth. No one was calling me. My phone wasn’t ringing and I wasn’t getting the offers I wanted. I just thought it would be funny because any time an entertainer in this business dies, they are looked upon as a genius. I thought if I faked my death in a movie, that’s how it came about…

Q) What was your most memorable moment from filming?

A) I would have to say is the celebrity wing when I go to jail for the first time and Tommy Lee is there. I thought that was pretty funny.

Q) How did you come up with the list of people who did cameos in the film?

A) Whoever I bumped into at a club I’d just say, “Hey! Let’s go do this!” I was hunting for them.

Q) You were the writer, director, producer and an actor in the movie. How were you able to keep up with this many duties?

A) I had four hats on. I’m a rock star babe! You know how I roll!

Q) How did your mom feel about being put in the movie?

A) She loved it. She had no idea what she was doing when I told her to do it, but she loved it.

Q) With all of the people that you had asked to be in the film, was there someone who didn’t want to appear because of the concept or how they thought they would be portrayed?

A) Winona Ryder wouldn’t do it. I wanted to do a scene where I was leaving jail and she was coming in jail because of all her shoplifting. She wouldn’t do it!

Q) Are you disappointed that the film didn’t get a wide release?

A) Yeah, but these days, unless someone is going to spend millions of dollars in opening the movie than it is best to go straight to DVD. For instance, it costs millions of dollars for the opening of a Jim Carrey movie, even if it wasn’t that great a movie. This was a smaller movie that hopefully will create a viral buzz on the Internet and a lot of people will pick it up because there was not a lot of money being spent to promote it so it has to be a word of mouth thing.

Q) Why should fans pick up your film?

A) Because it is a wild experience! It’s almost like listening to “Stairway to Heaven,” but in a movie. It’s got more celebrities in this movie than any other movie in history. I think it’s got theGuinness Book of World Records of celebrities. It is funny, but yet it is sad. I think it is moving and tells a story while entertaining. I think it accomplishes a lot!

Q) Do you think Sam Kinisonwould have approved of his likeness in the film?

A) Definitely! Sam was a dear friend of mine. I thought I made his stuff come across very real and very heartfelt. I wanted to make that part really important because it was really important to me.

Q) Is there anything in the entertainment industry that you haven’t done, but would like to try your hand at?

A) I’d like to try a dramatic role.

Q) Who would you most like to work with in the future?

A) I’d have to say Winona Ryder.

Q) What was the last great movie you saw and what made it so great?

A) I loved Garden State. I thought he did a great job with it. Natalie Portman is adorable and I just liked the movie.

Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?

A) I am doing a big contest on PaulyShoreIsDead.com where you and a friend can win a trip out to LA to come hang out with me at the comedy store. I’m going to put you up at the Hyatt house and all that! I’m back! The hiatus is over!
